Pours orange amber with a white head. Earthy and fruity aromas, with some cherry or strawberry and some slightly tart red grape. Flavor is toasty biscuit, earthy, with some caramel, a bit of the red grape flavor, and a bit of red apple. Pleasant and drinkable.

At a tasting, thanks Oren, big stable thick head, hazy rusty orange to light red colour, flowery perfumy aroma with some white fruits, malt and hay. malty bready flavour with a touch to strong bitterness and just a touch of sweetnees to counteract but not enough, a little unbalanced.

Re-rate 7/9/14: Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks Vova. Candies, fruits, sweet, a bit of cardboard. 5/3/5/3/10=2.6

Bottle at a tasting. Thanks Oren. Clear amber with a white head. Aroma of malt, caramel hints and some fruitiness. Sweetish flavor with malt, a bit of fruitiness, alcohol and mild bitterness in the finish. Medium-bodied. Not bad and doesn’t feel like 8.5% but lacks some character. 6/3/6/3/13=3.1

Peculier Pub, NY NY ($8): Pours a hazy reddish color with an off-white head; sediment is present (apparently that is what Biere de Lie means). Nose is caramel, fruity, woody, and so much more. In other words, a complex and nice aroma. Taste is quite good. The alcohol is covered up very well. Brown sugar and fruitiness is present in the flavor, along with a solid malt backbone. Dry finish it seems.Interesting and quite good.

Bottle from La Bon Marche, Paris. Very earthy, dry, dirty aroma with a bit of caramel malt, some wood, dust, cocoa . Pale amber with a low fine head. Flavor of dry cocoa, dust, some light orange, zest, alcohol apparent, dry and austere with a nice sweet underpinning. Very complex, challenging, and interesting. Strong farmyard charcter. Interesting as hell, and a step above the others we have tried on this stay in Paris.
