One of the two beers brewed at the monastary (the other one is the Asam Bock). With the latest technology and traditional monastic brewing skills, this world's award-winning special beer is brewed with the best ingredients in the oldest monastery brewery in the world. The Baroque Dark matures in the rock cellar for up to six weeks, developing its inimitable taste. It is full-bodied, malty-aromatic, fine dry with a slight sweetness, fine creamy in color like warm brown amber; Taste and fragrance intense, powerful and gripping.

33 cl bottle. Deep reddish brown color. Small creamy beige head. Malty nose hints at caramel. Flavor is brown bread, toasted grain, toffee and herbal hops. Some nuttiness in middle. Soft palate. Light bitter hop finish is brief.

Bought this quickly, thinking it was a Bock. Still, very nice Dunkel. One of the great monastery breweries of Germany.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from the Hereford Beer House. Pours clear, rich brown with a foamy, light khaki head. Light-medium sweet flavour with rich, fresh brown bread, nips of caramel, a few leaves, toasted grains. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Balanced finish, more hearty bready malts, brown bread especially, a little toasted caramel, earth, biscuits. This stuff really delivers.

Schön röstig-malziges Dunkel. In der Nase etwas schwach, im Trunk aber herrlich brotig, lecker Ding! Optisch auch schön anzusehen.

500ml bottle delivered from Beers of Europe and drunk at home. Light reddish brown, clear with a little off-white head. Muted nutty aroma, some Ovaltine, some caramel. Sweet taste, some hazelnut and toffee, with a quickly rising bitterness which gives notes of blackberry toward the finish. Nutty chocolate notes in the aftertaste. Body is fairly slight with heavy carbonation. Really nice dunkel.
