Bearing the hallmark of the Gordon clan, Gordon Finest Silver shines as a result of its “blue-eyed blonde” lustre : attractive, emancipated and natural. Its relatively modest alcohol content evokes the freshness of untamed waterfalls and secretive lochs where it is so good to dream. A true cocktail blending the bitterness of the finest of Pils and the roundness of a strong sweeter beer. Gordon Finest Silver, the lustre in the mouth of a 100% silver beer !

Can from Leuven. Actually survived me stepping on it heavily (and that’s no small feat) but a friend (the same one who showered me and my stuff in Frog beer) finished it off by dropping it accidentally. the leak was thankfully small and not much beer was lost. No wait, thankfully? Hur hur hur. This is crap. Deep golden body, thick white big head. They did that right. The nose and the aroma are a heavy maltyish mostly appley mess that’s hard to drink. Fun.

More from Gordon’s.... sigh. With these types of brewers I hope that, as the alcohol percentage heads lower, that their drinks will be more palatable. Indeed, if I wanted a high-alc concoction, why wouldn’t I just buy a bad vodka? Why go to the trouble of a lamely-brewed beer? Yet, these high-alc brews still have a strong presence, implying that drinkers have a passion for drinking bad beer to get drunk instead of just drinking bad vodka. So: this one pours with a decent head and a boring gold colour. Aroma is mostly malts with a hint of alcohol, but it’s not overbearing. The taste is a smooth bunch of nothing, like a pale lager and with little flavour aside from a hint of grain and corn. Smooth, at least. Very good for Gordon’s, but of course, that is not a complement!!

Can in Brugge. Pours dark gold with a frothy white head. Smells of hop and spice. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Seems a bit salty. Flavor of hop and malt, but suggests a malt liquor. Oops. Fooled me. Tastes like one too.

50 cL can. Pours clear and golden orange with a lacing white head. Medium dense caramel aroma and slight alcohol presence. Caramel and biscuit malty base flavour with a mild spice note and an alcohol presence and warmth. Alcohol and bitterness make out the finish. Too alcohol dense for my liking.

Canned. Golden colour, big fluffy head, which vanishes almost completely. Aroma is hops, malt and alcohol. Classic malt liquor aroma. Flavour is rather malty. Some very weak hints of hops is there. The maltyness drowns everything else, not even alcohol comes through that well.

Can (BB 03/2006)
Dark golden color, small steady head. Sweet fruity and lemony nose. Alcoholic, medium-bodied, fruity malty. Some woody hoppy notes in the finish. Long bitter-alcoholic aftertaste which somehow waters down. Not so bad actually, quite like some clean East European strong lagers.
