Wallonia has been experiencing an amazing upsurge of new microbreweries and contract brewers in recent years like most parts of the civilized world, but the province of Liège seems to be particularly proliferous in this respect, with this BIG Brewers as one of the latest new contract brewers, using the equipment of the also brand new Brasserie Belge. This D!ktator presents itself as a very violent gusher, with beer streaming out of the bottleneck upon opening, making me lose about 1/3 of it to the sink; foam kept creeping out for minutes on end. The result is a typical 'gusher head', irregularly edged, uneven-bubbled and lacing in shreds, but settling quickly as a thick, mousy, egg-white, stable ring on a cloudy pale orangey-peach blonde beer with 'dirty' ochre-ish tinge and an even more dirty and 'muddy' look with the sediment poured in at the end. Aroma of fresh pomelo, mandarin, guava, ripe sweet lychees, pine-scented air freshener somewhere, maracuja, lemon bread, freshly grated ginger, green onions (the Simcoe, no doubt), lavender-scented hand soap, cloves, freshly cut apples, pineapple, soggy sandwiches. Fruity, estery onset, peach, red apple and pineapple, sweetish with a sourish edge accentuated by strong, fizzy carbonation, minerally, coarsening an otherwise fluffy, soft mouthfeel, somewhat oily on the edges; soggy-biscuity and brioche-bready malt sweetness drenched in lingering fruity esters and spicy phenols, but fortunately - and so it ought to be for a double dry-hopped IPA - the hops get the upper hand quickly, exhibiting a colourful, fruity, bit piney and oniony but mostly very citric aroma retronasally, as well as a zesty, spicy, lively bitterness that lasts for quite a long time, even if it does not entirely block the yeasty effects which are - even under the camouflage provided by the hops - all too dominant here (see the gushing as well) and add somewhat distracting bready and phenolic effects. Some lingering sweetness as well, but the plus side is that the piney and citric hop aromas do linger around long enough to cover up a lot of this beer's basic flaws. Clearly too yeasty and such fierce gushing is never a good thing in any beer, but admittedly the overall flavour profile is quite daring especially for a Walloon brewery - a whole bunch of highly aromatic, fruity hops, mostly of very citric and therefore refreshing character, has been thrown in here in a very generous way. Flawed technically but still enjoyable and modern flavour-wise - big point off for the gushing of course, but I must admit that I did, in the end, certainly enjoy what was left over. Oh, and a well-meant 'boo' to the obviously fake rating by the brewer himself here below, how stupid do you think we are?
