Older bottle at Le Trappiste, thanks Bart for sharing. Medium thick, off-white head, translucent burgundy robe with wine red hue. Aroma of dried chestnuts, cocoa powder, iron, caramel, dried fig, nut shells. Sweetish onset of dried fruits, otherwise fairly neutral, softish carbo, touch dried banana, nutty maltiness with a metallic ’sound’ in the middle but not disturbingly so, soft and brief herbal hop touch in the finish but not deeply bittering, so that the straightforward caramelly maltiness persists. Simple, but that can be expected of the style, otherwise quite well-made - just unexciting and probably a bit too old yet as well.

Cask-conditioned at the Green Man, Bristol 25/3/2011. Deep, reddish brown in colour with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, slightly bready aroma with some berry fruit. Flavour was malty, with more fruit and a hint of caramel, before a decent bitter finish. A good effort from a new brewery.
