Aroma is quite light with some cocoa, hay and licorice. Flavour has salty licorice, some soy sauce, ash and hints of coffee. Too thin and salty.

Bottle 0.5l at home (via alesbymail). Colour is almost black with small white head. Aromas and flavours are coffee, chocolate and roasted malts.

Bottle at home (from Bristol Beer Factory online) 16/12/12. Mid black with a dirty tan head that soon clears to nothing more than some bubbles atop the glass. Nose is dark fruits, treacle toffee, roast malts, touch of molasses, sweet dark sugars, hint of liqourice. Tate comprises dark fruits, burnt treacle toffee notes, roast malt, dates, raisens, a little tobacco, suggestion of chocolate. Medium bodied with a little prickle in the carbonation. If anything a little on the thin side for a 7.7% beer! Drinkable stuff but I felt I was sold a little short on this one.

Bottle at home from the 12 stouts of Christmas. Dark caramel / black with a dark tan head. Surprising legs for a 7.7% beer. Rubbery plastic phenolics from the belgian yeast in the nose. Some dark chocolate and plum in the aroma as well. THe flavour is dark chocolate with a dry roasty finish. I got some pears in the flavour as well. Palete is viscous and under carbonated. A good flavoursome bold strong stout. I think I would prefer it with a endlish yeast and alittle more co2.

Aroma - mellow roasted malts, touch of coffee, touch of alcohol, slightly winey, hint of dark fruits
Taste - mellow roasted malts, oily dark malts, touch of liquorice, dark fruity malts, very smooth, some dark toffee, alcohol well hidden, not that complex though
Palate -soft carb, mediun to full bofy, oily texture, very smooth. Finish - smooth with a little chocolate in the tail
Overall - Very smooth and mellow, well balanced, but for an Imperial Stout the flavour is too mellow and lacks some depth. It’s more a normal strong stout. It’s a still a nice beer.

Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a sweetish roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and licorice flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate and licorice finish.

Bottle at The Hope, Carshalton. It pours jet black, with a thick tan head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, varnish, dark fruit, cherry and milk chocolate, The taste is roasted malt, caramel, toffee, cherry, liquorice, charcoal, smoke, tobacco, chocolate and dark fruit, with a bitter-sweet finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Flavoursome and well balanced.
