Master Brew is brewed using only the finest Kentish barley and hops and is Shepherd Neame's flagship beer in the brewery's Kentish heartland. The "Local Hero" is a distinctive, mid-brown bitter ale, with all the hoppy aroma you would expect of a beer brewed in the heart of the hop country.

Clear light blond beer, small yellowish head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: malty start, grains, hay, cow fodder. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: malty, grains, hay, cow fodder, watery, a little bitter. Aftertaste: hoppy, dry, very watery, a bit malty in the finish. Meh. Very unimpressive.

Clear bottle from Michaels Drinks, Yardley, Birmingham. Clear amber, small white head, some retention. Big aroma of caramel, some apple, light earthiness and spice. Taste was disappointing, caramel, a slightly funky tanginess possibly from skunking, lots of cardboard. Not very fruity in truth but drinkable. Poor ale from Shepherd Neame and they call this one 'Master Brew' which is scary. The 'Apprentice Brew' must be even worse.

Bought from the local shop an a emergency trip to get cheese. Saw it and just fancied having it with lunch. It's a really simple bitter, but with lots of bitter hops and a good mouthfeel. A very reasonable lunchtime pint.
