Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a murky dark brown with a frothy tan head. The aroma is dry yeast with sour acid citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sour with a big dry spicy pepper saaz hop palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle at home in London - sourced direct from the brewery. Pours rich, black-brown with a thick, luscious tan froth head that lasts for days. Roasted malts are the first hit on the nose, but next come notes of mild yeast, bread and tangy berries. Light to medium sweet flavor with tangy and leathery dark fruits, lightly bittersweet chocolate, burnt bread, tobacco, soft funk. Medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Incredibly dynamic to finish. You are at once smacked by robust roasted malts and all their chocolate, earth and ashy tobacco, then you get cleaned up by the tangy dark fruits, berries, decent funk. Wow. Everything really comes together here. Brings to mind the dark saisons I’ve tried from Hill Farmstead. This is hands down one of the best beers I’ve had from Partizan.

Bottle from the Partizan Brewery on 26 October. Poured pitch black (pretty much) with a thin, tan head. Aroma of roast malt, fruit cake and Belgian yeast. Flavours of black syrup, cherries and a herbal edge. Finish was burnt malt, charcoal and hop resin. Really interesting a well crafted beer. More dark saison, says I!

Bottle at Partizan. It pours deep brown/near black with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, roast, toast, spice, coffee and liquorice. The taste is roasted malt, earth, cocoa, coffee, decent bitterness, black toffee, liquorice and hay with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Tasty, well balanced and very drinkable. Nice work.

Bottle at home, thanks to Leighton for obtaining, decorating break I - 02/11/13. Pours an obscured light black meets extremely dark mahogony brown with a good sized coffee tan head. Nose is straw, earthy, light cocoa, liqourice, dark malt, burnt toffee. Taste comprises light roast, tangy citric lines, mineral bite, earthy, bitter orange, light soap, pinch of spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp refreshing finale. Decent saison, a little soapy tickle in the flavour knocks this one down a nothc or too.
