The traditional English Double Strong Ale is brewed annually for our WildCat Basketball team, thus the name NCAAle (National Champions Double Ale) This ale boasts a larger variety of specialty malt balanced by high addition of kettie hops NCAAle has a high alcohol content and is only served in 10oz glasses. flavor notes: sweet, malty, tobacco, roast, chocolate, booze/alcohol shines though. This ale mellows with age and on occasion is moved into whiskey barrels for an extended time to impart wood/whiskey flavor notes. This is Barrio’s biggest beer, an ale with a push to it’s limit.

Clear, dark orange amber color with a small beige head; smooth palate; aroma of plum jam; dryish flavour with a long, medium bitter finish; somewhat medicinal and too dry for me

On tap at O.H.S.O., pours a clear dark chestnut brown / amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of caramel malt and subdued resinous hops. Flavour brings out cloyingly sweet cough syrup, caramel and some buried resinous hops underneath. Too syrupy and medicinal. Needs refinement.

Barrio’s NCAAL growler fill from Total Wine in Tempe. It pours with an amber to mahogany looking body that supports a nice full tan head of foam. The aroma offers up coffee beans and nuttiness as well as some roasted and earthy malts. The taste begins sugary sweet with malts and a bit of sweet fruity esters and then it quickly moves into roasted malts, roasted coffee, nuttiness and some pine like hops. Into the finish it seems to pick up a cinnamon not too. Decent enough American Strong Ale but it seems it lacks some flavor harmony.

on tap as part of the sampler pours deep amber with a thin white head. Aroma is all malts, caramel, toffee, doughy. Flavor is toffee and sticky caramel sweet through and through. The alcohol is masked well, but it’s pretty one dimensional.
