Mastri Birrai Umbri’s unfiltered red ale is made in Italy according to the Cotta 37 recipe using the traditional top-fermentation technique. The use of roasted malts and chicklings results in its characteristic deep, naturally cloudy copper hue. The ale’s captivating aroma is dominated by mineral and caramelized notes. Its body is smooth and its flavour balanced.

Aus der Flasche im 2014-06 getrunken. Ein pink-braunes Bier! Hmm irgendwelche, schräge Kräuter sind hier mit drin. Sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig und nicht meins!

Bottle, 0.3l. Hazy copper pour, one finger frothy off-white head. Medium retention, good lacing on the glass. Nose is a bit ordinary but not bad, grains, lager malts, touch of grass and light citrus. Light body, medium to high carbonation. Quite fizzy, prickly mouthfeel. Light texture. Bittersweet taste with slight citrus tart. Aroma is where this falls short, sadly. Not sure how to describe it really.... It's like poor man's Belgian ale. Yeah, that seems right. There are traces of malts and yeast, light citrus fruity notes. Slight coriander and citrus. However, everything feels watered down and unbalanced. Plus there's this rusty metal bitterness dominating the aftertaste. Well, another fail here. Definitely better then their Cotta 50 Hefeweizen but that's not really saying much. I'd say its drinkable for the rating purposes but it's definitely not something I'd pick up again.

Just some tiny head, a bit of orange body, some bubbles. Heavy yeast on the nose, barn funk, orange zest, hay, sweet branches from a dried downed tree. Flavour is a yeasty caramel mix, heavy on the yeast, dissipates into a mess of wood notes and chalkboard. Dry finish. I guess you could get the yeast to do most of the work for you, but in that case, it all isn't that exciting.

Swing-top bottle, 0.75l, shared with Patrick. Aroma of yeast, dark fruit and grass. Pours cloudy amber brown color with thin quickly diminishing off-white head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet bready and yeasty, follows by some toasted malt and salty, but totally plain without any body, while finish is mild bitter. Light body, slick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Just terrible...

Cotta 28. From 375 ml bottle at ’Na Pizz, Rimini, Italy. Pours hazy orange gold with limited white foam. Aroma is malt, somehow vegetable (the beer is made with chilling). Body is medium, with relatively low carbonation. Taste is sweet at first but exhibiting good bitterness. Finish is short.

750ml bottle at Matt’s. BB 2018-01-27. Hazy amber, malty, strange fruitiness. Meh.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma is bizarre, with lots of muddy yeast and candied sugar. Flavour is bizarre and muddled, with a weird mesh of grass, herbal notes and yeast. Messy and vegetal. Not sure what the point of this was, but it's shit.
