Appearance- dark murky brown with a ruby tinge. Enormous foamy, cushiony head on the initial pour which gradually settles down to two fingers. Aroma- lots of chocolate, cocoa powder, chocolate malt, burnt toast, black coffee, hint of treacle. Taste- very bitter chocolate, coffee, dark malts, liquorice, chocolate raisin and slight plum hints, a bit of burnt brown sugar, a dry bitter finish. Good.

Bottle. A big, off-white head forms over a dark brown body. Roasted, chocolatey aroma with dark dried fruits, some foresty hints and coffee grit notes, It’s super soft and semi-dry on the palate, with a nice carbonation level. Full body. Coffee grit, roasted malts, dark chocolate, oats and a little bitterness in the flavor. Lasting roasted finish with a nice dryness. Sort of feels a bit one dimensional, but damn it’s fine. 140717

Bottle @ Kings Day Tasting 2014 shared with Dutchdrebus. Very dark brown color, a lot of yeast residu floating in it, huge fizzy lively off-white head. Aroma is malts, iron, earthy. Taste malts, iron, a hint of pepper, dark malts, bitter. Average body, way too much carbonation. Fizzy high carbonation. Too bad, the carbonation really gets in the way of the flavor.

Bottle, Chester Beer & Wine. Dark brown looks with a smallish tan head. Roasted malt, dark fruits and choc in the nose. Slid down smoothly but with fairly lively carbonation. Similar yarn flavour-wise to the aroma with some tartness towards the finish. A quality porter fo’sure.
