So far most of the beers from this brewer are really far from the usual styles they list themselves to be but somehow they work. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with an enormous foamy brown head that lingered forever and left some lacing. The aroma was sweetish coffee, roasty malts and red wine. The flavor was tart cherry, red wine, light toasty malts and vanilla. The finish was long with tart cherries, red wine and vanilla lingering. Medium body. Decent.

11.2 oz bottle. Aroma was a little weak. Could pick up hints of chocolate and vanilla but very faint. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with small white head. Unfortunately, the aroma is the best thing about this beer. Thin mouthfeel with a strange strange sour after taste. Not much body at all. Barely improves as it warms. Vanilla comes through more, not much else. Not a terrible sweet stout but not really good either. Pass on this one.

bottle pours dark brown with a medium light tan head. Leaves a nice spiderweb lacing down the glass....a very nice looking beer. Aroma is dark roasted barley, sweet cocoa and espresso. Flavor is thin but has the mouth feel you get from French pressed coffee, thick coating the tongue. Leaves flavors of cocoa nibs and coffee. I like it.

Impossible to pour, fizzes massively into solid head.Nose shows lots of roasted malt with plenty of chocolate notes. A little bit of acidity shows but quite subtle. Simple but nice, that chocolate character is amazing.Very similar flavours, nice and light with little roasty bitterness. Nice chocolate and nutty notes though. Again, not much sourness, finishes a little weakly.Carbonation is too high.

From a 330ml bottle on 5/12/2010. Pours mahogany with quite a bit of light yeast sediment swirling about. Has a mild aroma of roasted malt, coffee and damp basement. The flavour is mostly roasted malt with some sweet-sour action going on, with the almost citrussy sour prevailing. Tastes bigger than 4%, but it doesn’t quite come together.

330mL bottle, pours black with a humongous beige head. Aroma of very muted roasted malt and light cappuccino. Flavour of cloyingly sweet and sour coffee, candy, lactic notes and some fruitiness. Not good as expected.

Re-rate 4/18: Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Thanks Yoav. Sweetish-sourish, roast, stale coffee, lactose. 5/3/5/3/10=2.6

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Shachar. Black beer with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, milk chocolate and a bit of cappuccino. Sourish-sweetish roasty flavor with chocolate, lactic notes, a bit of nuts and some fruitiness. Medium-bodied and over-carbonated. 7/4/6/2/13=3.2

At a tasting, thanks Sachar, medium quickly dissapearing head, dark brown colour and quite clear, aroma of roasted coffee, apple, sour cherries, flavour of charred wood, smoke and sour cherries, very sour and not enough bitter and a body which is a little to light but still enjoyable and extremely interesting.

Bottle. Pours black with a half-inch light tan head. Gentle aroma of roasted barley and sweet coffee. Taste has a sour milk tang over modest roasted malt and slight mocha flavours. Strange beer - it tastes rather like a mixture of Vietnamese iced coffee and yoghurt. Another unusual one from this mob, but this one wasn’t my sort of thing at all.

Well, it’s sweet. That’s about it. Tastes kind of like burned butterscotch and cough medicine. Some caramel in the nose. Rated 4/12/10
