440 ml can from MBC, canned 15/09/20. Dark brown body, with a big, frothy, lacing, beige head. Aroma of roasted nuts, dark bread, dark chocolate, coffee, some tobacco, grass, citrus, some dark berries. Tastes similar, with some more toffee. Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation. Finishes roasty, moderate sweet, hoppy, citric, piney, with coffee, tobacco, dark chocolate, some liquorice, some toffee, some dark fruits. Very nice. Reminds me of a Black IPA, very hoppy. Still with lots of roasty notes, balanced by a smooth, sweet body. Characterful and quite robust, but really quaffable at the same time. Score: 7 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 15

Can from Beer Ambleside. Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Nose - tomato plant, bitter chocolate and coffee. Taste - more green plant stuff, edge of lime, bitter chocolate and light smoke. Palate - medium bodied, creamy/smoky middle with a bitter finish. Overall - into Black IPA territory here. A not more bitter than I generally prefer my porter.

Pours dark brown almost black in colour with a small beige head. Aroma is resiny pine, charcoal and roasted. A moderately sweet taste, resiny pine, liquorice, coffee and earthy roasted flavours with a dry pine bitter finish. This one grows on you, nice.

440ml can. Pitch black appearance, good beige head. Roast, pine, dried dark fruits in the aroma. Taste presents an interesting hop / roast combination, with pine, coal dust, sprouts, coffee, prunes, bitter cocoa and layered dark malt all getting a look in. Interesting, complex india porter. Very good.

Tap at the experiment Hackney, an opaque dark black brown coloured pour with a lasting loose magnolia head. Aroma is big woody resinous hops, bark, tarmac, bark rubber, toasted malts,. Flavour is composed of robust earthy toasted malts, pine resin, liquorice bark, wood, earthy roast,. Palate is medium full, light tang, rich earthy roast, liquorice. Moderate carbonation. Big beer. Lingering singed Douglas fur.
