It's not too often the brewing process requires us to make beer in a mind over matter sort of way. Hot Rocks Lager presented us an opportunity to work with Tony Cornet of Bend Brewing Co. on a collaborative project. Working with our brewers to bring her recipe to fruition, she decided to "rock it" old school.

A robust, dark lager brewed with glowing-hot granite creating a “Super-Boil” that caramelizes the wort, resulting in giving Hot Rocks its caramel and toffee notes. Hot Rocks is one of Port Brewing’s early spring releases.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is some heavy dark malt with a nice chocolate. Flavor is a nice roasted malt with a big chocolate lingering in the back round. Finish has more chocolate notes with some almost a rye-like spiceyness. This was a nice dunkle. A real showcase of the malts.

22 ounce bottle. Transluscent dark red, brown color. Large rocky beige head. Rich burnt caramel malt nose hints at roasted root vegetables and soy sauce. Roasted caramel malt flavor, more soy sauce. Rich and chewy with a hint of worcestershire sauce, chocolate, pumpernickel bread, currants and coffee beans. This brew improves as it warms and develops complexity as you slowly sip it.
