In 2002, we introduced Stone Ruination IPA (and its imposing 100+ IBUs) as the first year-round West Coast double IPA on the planet. Then in 2012, in commemoration of its 10th anniversary, we introduced a new beer that would grow to be known as Stone RuinTen Triple IPA. Now, we’re bringing that back in all its over-the-top, cranked-to-11, maximum hoppy splendor, using every brewing technique in our arsenal to squeeze every last bit of magic out of a truly staggering amount of hops. It’s been 18 years of beautifully bitter evolution, and this stage dive into a mosh pit of hops is bigger and bitter-er than ever. Don’t call it a comeback.

03-12-2020 // can. Triple IPA crossing to heavy bitter simple American Barleywine. Heavy malty body with slight oxidative hop aromas, orange. Heavy bitterness. Heavy but somehow a great beer underneath.

12oz can pours with a slightly hazy copper to gold colored body that supports a thin white head of. The aroma offers up resiny pine, tangerine and then a bit of pink grapefruit. The taste delivers a full flavor force of thick pine, grapefruit, thin mango and floral hoppiness that leans firmly in the direction of resiny hop bitterness. To midway the pine hops take on a wider yet more rounded thickness of depth. It ends with a blend of lingering pine and citrus hop bitterness. Solid brew with almost no sense of the ABV. Loving this.

0.33 l can from Goblet Beer Store, Zagreb. Hazy amber, small off-white head. Moderately hoppy aroma, fruity, ripe fruit, stone fruit, dried fruit, berries. Malts, honey. Slightly earthy. Some spice or alcohol. Strong. Heavy, slightly harsh, alcoholic. Fruity hoppy flavour. Piney. Malty. Sweet, sticky, resiny. Some bitterness in the finish. Lasting dry finish. Like drinking a strong sticky resin liquor. Interesting in it's own way.

Burk från SB. Kladdig bärnstensfärgad vätska med medelhögt smutsvitt skum. Stor kådig söt doft med inslag av old english marmelad och resin. Stor kropp, söt, tallskott, citrusmarmelad, maffig beska som ger en lång eftersmak och landar in drycken till att bli hyfsat balanserad. Maffig och god.

Canned 355ml. -from Goblet Zagreb. Dark orange/golden coloured, medium sized white to off-white head, alcohol and light caramel in the nose. Slightly sticky sweet, light pine and caramel with mild notes of grapefruit and ripe tropical fruits. Alcohol in the finish.

Clear copper and deep bronze coloured body with a light haze, around ten per cent opaque, all with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pine, resin, honey, grapefruit, a dash of flowers and a good deal of malt, alcohol and metal astringency. Medium-bodied; Super biting bitterness at first like the days of old, but this is a decidedly metallic and piney flavour, like putting a roll of pennies in your mouth - without the wrapper, but some light grapefruit and lemon comes through near the end with a light hit of both malt and honey, but tons of alcohol, of course. Aftertaste is fairly simplistic with the very bitter (nice!) hops outweighing everything else, but pine, citrus, flowers, honey and especially alcohol astringency are the strongest here. Overall, a fairly nice true Imperial IPA in a normal serving size with real bitterness (just like early 2000s!), but too must astringency to drink all the time - Surprising by a nice-ish Imperial IPA by Stone and that's not even a joke! Good to try this one fresh and the first Stone beer in a while that has been good! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia for $3,79 sampled at my house here in Washington on 26-October-2020.
