Ever since it put non-alcoholic beer on the map in 1979, Clausthaler has been the gold standard of the segment. With its own, specialized brewing technique, the pioneer still creates its signature non-alcoholic lager, Clausthaler Classic, in strict accordance with the German purity law. Its genuine real beer taste is well-balanced, fresh, and easy to drink, with a creamy feel on the palate and a pleasing golden color to match.
Seit seiner Markteinführung 1979 ist Clausthaler der Goldstandard des Segments alkoholfreier Biere. Sample at the DBLDP on 09/03/2017. Clear pale yellow-gold color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lace. Aroma of grain, fruit and slight hops. Light-bodied with flavors of cereal malt, fruit and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a grainy aftertaste. Below average overall.

Pours an amber from a bottle, very soda-bubbly. Aroma is skunk, sweet corn, flavor is similar. Starts off cloyingly, syrupily sweet, but ends rather moldy cardboard bitter, not hop bitter. Not good.

0.5 l bottle, best before March 2018. Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, malty and slightly grassy aroma of grains, wort and some straw. Moderately sweet, malty and a bit grassy taste of wort, grains and some straw, followed by a short, slightly bitter finish. Medium body, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay!

Aroma’s wet grain, a little malt and hops. Flavor’s like nose, slightly more sweet than bitter. Body’s odd as it’s soft, but good carbonation cuts it nicely. Not great, but one of the better NAs.

Poured from a 355 ml bottle with a bottling date of Dec., 2016. Aroma is grain forward with a light breadiness. Light toasted grain notes with hints of cracker. Light floral and grassy hop notes. Some hints of sulfur. Pours a crystal clear, yellow gold with a large, pillowy, white head that shows decent retention as it slowly recedes into itself. Moderate lacing and no legs. Flavor is slightly to moderately sweet and grain forward with some notes of toasted grain, wheat bread, biscuit and cracker. Hints of honey. Some light bitterness with faint floral and herbal hop notes and hints of grass. Light sulfur notes. Mouthfeel is light bodied and somewhat crisp with moderate carbonation. Low astringency and no alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer like substitute for the real thing. Quite a bit of malt flavor with some background hop notes. Fairly clean. I might pick this over water if I had to choose one or the other. I might rather drink this than the cream ale I had last night too.
