A high fermentation beer, Jenlain Ambrée is one of the first specialty beers in France and is been brewed since 1922. It owes its success to its inimitable taste stronger than all fashions. Its copper color, its aromas of cooked fruit and caramel make it a beer widely recognized for tasting but also a perfect ally for cooking.

Clear amber/copper coloured body with a very small off-white head. Aroma of malt, light english hops, alcohol, cardboard, toffeee and some pine. Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour with some astringent bitter flavours such as blood, metal and some odd nuttiness. Aftertaste has that funky puckering flavours with an overall alcoholic feeling. Overall, not a good beer and was worse off than expected. This is my least favourite biere de garde i’ve had thus far (1300+). I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 28-December-2004.

This smelled nice, pkeasant and malty, and looked magnificent, deep peach ice tea like amber, with a big, not-quite-white firm looking head. Tasted the head - nice.. fruity even. Went on to the rest, there was something in the beginning that was fruity, but turned a bit sour (in a nice way), but watery, with the omnipresent roasty aftertaste. Amber ale meets biere de garde. Not stunning, but suprisingly good for a French beer.

bottled at brewtopia - a pretty standard biere de garde - some caramel going on, but mostly grassy and grainy - nothing stand-out, glad I had it at a fest instead of dishing the money out for a whole bottle on my own.

Bottled (BB 05/2005)
Nice dark amber with steady tanned head. Sweet dunkel-like aroma, some toffee notes. Medium-bodied, bittersweet with hops and caramel flavors. Warming. Suprisingly this remains me about "Porin Juhlaolut" by Sinebrychoff. (5/4/6/3/13 3.1)
Re-rate, bottled (BB 05/2005)
Clear amber color with good brownish head. Toffee and slight cognac nose. Burned sugar, toffee and malty-backbone in the flavor. Gives slightly harsh, alcoholic aftertaste. (5/4/6/3/13 3.2)

Canned. Orange-amber. Sweet and almondy. Generously malty with fairly soft mouthfeel. Somewhat funky with a mild, honeyish finish.

A beutiful amber beer but with no head. The aroma is slightly malty sweet. The taste is soft with a great malt blend - slightly sweet with a good bitterness. It gets better with each sip.

This one is way better than the blonde version. Amber-colored, creamy head. Palm-like taste. Nice beer!
