1 pt. 9 oz. bottle purchased at Blue Max in Burnsville, MN. Pour is a clear reddish brown with a relatively small khaki head. Aroma is a muted chocolate malt. Taste is interesting, nice roast coffee highlights in the middle and end with a much sharper taste than I was expecting. Much thinner upon first pour, though body was much fuller as it warmed. Nothing special, though a nice example of a brown ale. Still love Nøgne Ø as a brewery.

Aroma of medium dark malts. Clear mahogany color with a light beige head. Body is a bit thin, flavor is lightly sweet brown malt. There is some roasted, but not burnt, malt character. Almost creamy in a way. Reasonably moderate carbonation. After a time some stout aspects, maybe chocolate, probably coffee, show up. In fact the finish is more like a mild stout than a brown. Very, very nice ale.

Bottle @ Københavnske Øldage 2007 in Copenhagen. Clear medium brown color with a average fizzy fair lacing mostly diminishing off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft.

A good brown. Light malt aroma, and a surprisingly full flavored roasted grain taste. Just a little nutty. About as good as a brown ale can get. brown color, of course.

Bottle. Nice big head with good duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are roast malt, chocolate and notes of coffee.

Bottle. Ruby/chestnut brown beer with a big cafe au lait colored head. Nutty, slight roast aroma. Roasty, nutty, caramel flavor with backing hops. Lingering complex malts and some roast. Medium body. Easy drinking. Nice balance.

Dark brown with a slight redness to it - nearly headless, but a nice ring of lace develops with the pour - nutty aroma, with hints of caramel, nutmeg, biscuity malt, and a touch of chocolate - medium-bodied, with a nice balance of malt and spicy hops - crisp and biscuity - hints of caramel of cocoa, along with some mild spices - some coffee and chocolate develop far in the back at the finish - a well-crafted, highly sessionable brown.

Bottle; nose of caramel and smoke; Slightly hgazed brown with a small offwhite head, flavor of smoke and caramel; OK brown, but not a Rogue Hazelnut, the one I compare against!

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale with a medium dirty white foamy head with adequate retention. Aroma of nutty malt with light roasted malt also being noticeable. Taste is a mix between some great nutty malt with a light bitter finish. Texture is quite creamy with a nice full body and medium carbonation. Overall, I thought this was a nice tasting brown ale which is not something I usually say a bout brown ale and somewhat similar to Rogue Hazelnut.

Unpasteurized, unfiltered it certainly is. Light mahogany, with amber and tan hues. High clarity, leaving the sediment behind. Big beige head is full and rocky, being expertly retained and lacing quite profusely.
Popping the cap exposes some yeast phenol/esters, but they fully pass with breathing and it’s all pure pleasure from there. Controlled roastiness in the aroma gives plenty of hazelnut that melds with light pale malts to give a creamy-sweet hazelnut coffee-drink like nose. Soft, mildly fruity hops, with light earthiness and gentle grassiness give light bitterness/dryness and some bits of milk chocolate are noted on the finish. A touch of sourness, not sure if its malt tannin, or vinousness, but my guess is a moderate prune vinousness and anise-like maltiness. Vanilla cream smooths things with breathing, giving the coffee a more round, approachableness. Nice and full aroma, strong but not overdone. No alcohol noted. Maybe just a bit too much acidity/tartness for a brown ale, but otherwise quite inviting.
The light tartness is just ever-so slightly apparent in flavor, just a bit too heavy on the roasted malts, adding a touch of char-like slickness. But mostly, it’s a fantastically soft, unfiltered texture, with fluffy, tight carbonation and perfectly balanced maltiness lending chocolate, coffee and creamy sweetness. Minimal, peppery hops with some light fruity esters and just a wonderful hazelnut flavor through and through. Pleasing hop bitterness seals the deal. Tremendously drinkable. Wish this was available in six packs for a cheaper price!
