Vintage Ale is a truly distinguished bottle conditioned beer. Each vintage is a blend of that year’s finest malt and hops, creating a unique limited edition brew. Being bottle conditioned, it is after bottling that the flavours truly begin to develop, and continue to do so well beyond the best before date that we are obliged to state.
The 2009 Vintage features Kent grown Golding Hops and East Anglian Tipple malted barly. It has an intial aroma of rich Muscavado sugar followed by a brandied caramelised [sic] orange palate and finishes with a creamy vanilla warmth.

500 ml bottle. Clear medium amber colour with a small, short lived off-white head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, malt and alcohol. Sweet caramel, malty flavour with a warming alcohol finish. Medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

(bottle) Hazy, amber to copper colour with a short and slightly tanned foamy layer. Slightly molassy, nutty and cara-malty aroma with vinous notes of dried fruits and a tinge of marzipan. Sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Nutty and caramelly malty taste with a pronounced vinous fruit-character; lingering sweet and slightly bitter finish a muted alcoholic strength. 25.IX.13

Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sweet, caramel malts, nuts, chocolate, toffee, butterscotch, dark sugar, hints of licorice. Taste is slightly sweet, caramel malts, butterscotch, dark sugar, nuts, chocolate, almond cake, licorice, grass. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice one.

Bottle shared by Joes @ weekly tasting. Vertical 04-09-10-11-12-13. Clear rusty dark orange color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, tea, some alcohol, some sweetness, raisins and a bit soapy. Medium body and carbonation.

Part of a vertical comparison, many thanks to M & L V.!. Huge cream-coloured head over faintly hazy amber beer. Molasses, caramel (the Muscovado!), and indeed, very sweet-smelling. Sweet-caramelly caramel-covered cookies, Café Noir, faint trace of raw alcohol (again the sugar?). Sticky, medium to full-bodied, viscous, but surprisingly well-carbonated. Perfectly balanced it would be, if half of the sugar would have been left out.

Clear copper red beer, aery irregular off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: some caramel, honey, malty, little oxidized, some marzipan, sweet, big sugary. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: caramel, bit sweet, lots of orange peel, little bitter, alcohol. Aftertaste: caramel, bit yeasty, orange peel, malty, bit oxidized, honey.

Bottle (#079237) shared by Cuso, thank you! Hazy deep amber colour. Aroma plum, caramel, light alcohols, diacetyl. Taste is soft chocolate, toffee, lightly fruity. Light background bitterness. Finish is long, sweet, balanced with some bitterness. Late roasted character.

500ml bottle from the brewery. Pours copper with a thin white head. Aromas of apple pie, poached pears, dark sugar. Taste has a touch of booziness, and a very faint bitterness, mostly just sweet and sugary though. Nice, got a few to age so will be interesting to try again in a couple of years.
