Barry Island IPA is brewed with a trio of hops from the US and bursts with citrus aromas that create unique, smooth malt taste, followed by a vigorous bitter finish and a tidy clout of citrus and berry hop flavours.

Golden clear honey color, small white head. Fruity, sweetish, a bit marmalade aroma. Light to medium bodied. Fruity, peachy flavor. Crisp, some resin. Even with American hops, this feels more British than American.

Dark blond. It’s got caramel malts and some citus in the aroma. Flavour also has some hop dryness and bittersweet caramelised orange peel in the finish. Overall it’s quite muted and lacks punch.

Bright clear amber beer with a good off white head. Palate is light and airy, semi dry. Dry pale malt with lots of mellow banana and bubblegum esters. Sweetish dried fruits bring up the rear. Light dry finish with a little floralness coming through. Not very hoppy at all and quite ester laden but quite drinkable.

Bottle, Morrisons, New Brighton. For some reason I knew this was going to be average before I opened the bottle. Hop lies on the blurb - where are they ? This reeks of bandwagon jumping. Not impressed. I see that someone has given this a 5 on here.. really ?

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of spicy hops, malt, lemons, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, malt, hops, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

330ml bottle at home. Caramel nose, not too full on with the hops with whisps of citrus, some shortbread but generally a nice and easy-going IPA.

330ml Bottle: BBD Nov 2013, poured into an Augustijn badged chalice on 5 Sep 2013 at home during a random beer tasting evening with nobody except myself. Pale golden brew, with a thin covering of small white bubbles. The nose was fairly hoppy, spicy and semi-floral/citrus, a malty note or two as well. the taste was as mixed as the smell, hop lead but malts all around, I liked it, not sure it’s really an American style IPA as the label claims, but an enjoyable brew that will divide the beer geeks amongst us into different sides (good v bad). The alcohol was nicely hidden and overall i thought it more than OK.
