What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevada’s Grossman Family and Russian River’s Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. Brux began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different: The liquid manifestation of change over time.

Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, Brux will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, spice and lemon - this ale will progress in the bottle for many years.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in late spring 2012. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 1-2 finger foamy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of bright lemon, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white pepper, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, bread, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of lemon, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white pepper, hay, straw, grass, candi sugar, bread, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy/peppery spiciness with slight tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white pepper, hay, straw, grass, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice nice complexity and robustness of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; with a very crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderately dry on the finish as well. High carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Brett Belgian pale ale. All around good complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle, with about a year of cellar time. Bright golden peach color with a fizzy beige head. Nose is lively with brett, grains, and grass. Light and crisp flavors; lemon, grass, wheat, and brett. Heavily carbonated. Capped and refrigerated half the bottle for two days and it still had plenty of bubbles. A good brew, on the verge of very good, but it can’t compete at this price point ($16).

Dull tan, no head. Aroma has brett, subtle malts...in the direction of gueuze but quite a bit cleaner. There’s a fair bit of alcohol coming through, sweet, just a hint of tartness, bit of cidery character as well. More time might bring out the brett a little better. Inchoate.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy yellow with paperthin white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is funk citrus and wheat. Thin mouthfeel with strong citrus and fruit with light tartness in the finish. Good.

Bottle, Hippo Beers, Glasgow. Vivid clear amber pour with a fading white head. Alive in the glass...shhhh listen carefully to dem bubbles. Fragrant aroma was yeast, sour apple, funk. Soft, delicate mouthfeel. Flavour was tart, funk, apple with a dryish finish. A bit of a let-down considering the price.

Aroma is fairly fruity with a light malt character. Lots of pear with some dank earthy notes. Lighter notes of cherry and pineapple with a touch of citrus and barnyard funk. medium phenolic note with pink peppercorn and grains of paradise. Pours a fairly clear golden orange with a huge pillowy off-white head that recedes fairly quickly. There is very little head retention to this beer which is a good thing because the head filled the glass. No lacing or legs. Flavor has a hint of sweetness upfront with some pear and cider esters. Moderate phenolic notes with some peppercorn and lemon pepper. Light citrus notes. Moderate dank vegetal character. Dry finish with some lingering phenolics and a hint of fruit. Medium bitterness which isn’t exactly pleasant. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer, but if this is what its like with some age, and people have said improved it I would have hated to try it when it was young. The dank vegetal note doesn’t work well with the fairly string phenolics. The Brett needs to add more fruitiness to balance the other notes out.

Rated from backlog. Pours copper in color with slight off white head. Tart tastes with hints of spices and fruits. Leaves the palate dry.
