Bottle at home, bought at Sainsbury’s. Wow. Slightly translucent dark brown with a decent tan head. The aroma and taste are sweet: vanilla and almonds with strong alcohol and a bit of a metallic tinge to keep things interesting. A great find, and from a supermarket no less!

Bottled. Clear dark ruby, small head. Apply nose with caramel and coffee. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and tin, some cocoa. Mid bitter finish. Doesn’t really lift.

Picked this up at Bicester Sainsburys, sometime during September 2013 consumed at home Sunday 6th October 2013 Pours dark conker brown with large light beige head. Some coffee, smooth a little nutty, touch creamy, easy drinking. A little creamy mocha its pleasant and a really easy sipper drinking much easier than a 6.8% beer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.7

330ml bottle from Sainsbury’s. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aromas are coffee, toffee, milk chocolate, roasted malt and caramel. Taste has a nice hit of sweetness followed by a mellow hop bitterness for good balance. Medium bodied, creamy texture, low carbonation bu t fine for the style. Finishes bitter and long. Very nice.

33cl bottle from the Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt 2013 range. Drunk listening to Shelby Lynne. Mellow. Friday evening. Last beer of the day. And it’s been a good day. I’ve travelled and done stuff. Had experiences. Enjoyed myself. Black beer, lasting thick dark beige head. Obviously a lot of carbonation which I’m hoping will have calmed down with the vigorous pour into a Duvel glass. Aroma of liquorice and chocolate and some coffee. I’m not keen on liquorice and this has it all the way through the beer. There is some decent mocha flavour there as well. Funnily enough just a little watery in the mouth, not as malty beefy as I expected. It’s fine, if you like liquorice, which I don’t. Mocha coffee is fine. But as I say, a little watery and could be fuller on the swallow.
