The natural daughter of Saint Landelin, the DIVINE is a golden beer named after the beatified founder of Crespin Abbey, known from the Middle Ages.
As golden as her eldest is blond, as sweet and generous as her eldest is fruity and lively, the Divine is positioned as a true Grand Cru from the Holy Landelin.

Aroma of caramelized malt. Pours dark amber with ok head and lacing. Medium bubbly carbonation. Finishes slightly bitter, a little oaky astringency and sweet. Some light burnt taste here. Bottle.

Yummy! Tastes of malt and toffee with an abrupt, dry finish. Tiny oil slick head on golden/amber body. Aroma has same notes as taste, but lighter. Taste come on full strength at first sip. This is really lovely.

Bottle shared with dEnk. Clear orange color, small white to off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, herbs and spices. Ok body and carbonation. I don’t like it though, not my thing.

bottle from saveur-biere.com. Golden colour, huge, creamy white head. Fruity nose. Full-bodied, malty with a fruity touch, ripe fruit, shy hoppy flavours with add some dryness.

March 2009: Dumpy brown bottle, containing 33cl of 8.5% strength beer. Plenty of life left when opened. Poured into a Westmalle Chalice, everything looks good in one of those. Good looking beer, deep old gold, clear and almost bright. The foaming white head didn’t stay long enough for me, but it tried to hang around for a while. Yeast, hops and malts hit the nose. I had been reviewing lagers before I opened this, what a joy to actually smell something at last. The alcohol hits hard in this (or is it because of the lager tastings?), I had trouble getting past the initial thump of it. Smaller sips allowed the true flavours to come through. A mix of hops, malts, cereals and yeast combine very sweetly to give this beer a pleasant feel, with a warming sensation from the alcohol adding to its charms, once I got over the first gulp. Easy to drink, in fact far too easy, this would be a headache inducing special given the chance. Once again a fine beer from France, I really must try and get some more when the chance arises.

Paid $7.99 for a 750ml bottle. Poured into a snifter. Nearly clear gold color. Soft carbonation with 1/2 white head. Spotty lace down the snifter. Nose of wheat/ yeast, pale malts and light spice. The flavor is sweet, fruity, spicy, the ABV is slightly noticeable toward the back end, mildly bitter and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is tingly and lively. Not bad in anyway however….. a bit boring. Real forgettable for me.

Bottle @ home. A bit hazy, golden orange appearance with a creamy, off-white head. Light caramel, citrusy, orange fruity, creamy nose. Nice, light caramel malty, orange/tangerine citrusy, slightly bitter flavor. Refreshing, fairly tasty beer.

Bottle from Leclérc supermarket in Gex (Ain)
Deep blond color, ordinary head. There is some smell of malt, warm plastic, vegetables. Correct body; some malt flavor, sweetish, with fruity and vegetables traces; correct bitterness. Obviously not a Bière de Garde, just a simple and slightly flawed Strong Belgian Ale.
