Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.
After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.
It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

bottle with thanks to pivnizub! Hazy pale yellow, creamy white head. Hoppy nose. Sweet and malty, quite full-bodied with a touch of alcohol and some grassy-resiny hops. Shy fruity touch, citrus mainly.

"Born in 2012" - Light brown colour with thin but lasting head. Aroma is syrupy sweet with lots of boozy dried fruit rather like a sherry. Flavour is similarly sweet and rich with dried fruit dominating. There are some woody and spicy notes lingering in the background too. Quite thick and warming.

(bottle, 35.5cl, vintage 2012) Clear, amber colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Slightly sour and leathery malty aroma with notes of caramel, as well as fruity aspects of plums, citric hops and a tinge of booze. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a calm carbonation. Slightly syrupy and juicy malty start with dried fruity notes of raisins and fruit cake; moderately sweet and fruity finish with subtle bitter hops and a warming alcoholic strength. Quite easy-going for a Barley Wine. 22.IV.14

4 ounce draft (2011 vintage) at ChurchKey poured into a snifter. Pours a caramel brown/amber color with off-white head. Aromas of caramel and floral notes. Tasting notes of caramel, pine, floral notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Not as good as I hoped, maybe I’d like this better fresh but since this beer is retired that likely won’t happen.

A copper beer with a quite weak and beige head. The aroma is powerfull, riped fruits and some berries, lots of caramell, strawberries and raspberries, plums, some pine needles, also hint of vanilla and marzipan. Complex and rich aroma. Taste of strong maltyness, slightly caramelly, herbs, some pine needles, the end is dried by bitterness, dry wood and marzipan. A slightly biting end. Full bodied, slippery and smooth to drink. The great and powerfull beer, a complex and easy to enjoy.

Bottle: Hazy, light amber coloured, big, table and lacy off-white head; dried fruits - mainly raisins - and caramel and nuts in the nose, "woody" hops in the background; medium to full bodied, moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, a bit sticky, but soft; lingering sweet-fruity finish, caramel and molasses included; gets drier in the bitter-sweet aftertaste. Very nice drop...
