2012 bottle. Clear, mahogany color, thin white head. Dried fruits, plums, oranges and alcohol in aroma. Somewhat complex, nice. Sticky and alcoholly at first when cold. Plums, bread, hops, brown sugar in flavor. These somehow comes in layer as the beer warms up. Long warming finish. Sipper, and a nice one it is. Classic barley wine. Grows on you with every sip.

Poured from a 355mL bottle (2012 vintage). Clear copper brown with minimal off-white head. Aroma is boozy caramel malt, some mild dark stone fruits and nuts. Flavour is pretty much the same, the booze and nuts come through more, plus a little chocolate. Medium-Full body.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; 2009 vintage, bottled on 11/16/2009. Pours moderately cloudy orange amber color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, plum, date, pear, apple, brown sugar, bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and fruity yeast notes; with decent strength. Taste of caramel, raisin, plum, date, pear, apple, toast, brown sugar, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, raisin, plum, date, pear, apple, brown sugar, toast, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick and slightly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good English Barleywine. All around good balance and complexity of malt and fruity ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle from SuperBest - Clear amber/copper pour with a off-white/beige head. Yeasty, sweet malts, caramel, some slight spice, earthy herbal and floral hops. Not bad.

Nose: is toffee, apple, sherry, sugar slight under note of Manchego. Taste is cherry, toffee, caramel, little marzipan, a hoppy citrus note overlaying with a little resin in the finish. Lovely alcohol warmth. A nice drink, but I always find the American use of hops not quite to my taste in barley wines.

Clear reddish brown amber colour, white head. Malty aroma, light coffee, candied cherries, sherry, caramel and light banana. Sweet malty flavour, syrup, booze and fruits. Alcoholic finish, malts, caramel and light bitter hops.

Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, smooth, oily, bit sticky, fairly sweet malty palate. Finish as main flavour, warming alcohol, very smooth, soft spicy toffee caramel finish
Overall - Not a big fan on barley wines (tbh I need to try more beers of the style) but I like this

Clear red to purplish beer, creamy off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of caramel, fudge, red fruits, some (over)ripe banana, some alcohol. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sugary, lots of alcohol, caramel, pretty bitter, some raisins, hops, fudge, chocolate. Aftertaste: caramel, chocolate, bitter hoppy, toast.

Coppery color with an off-white head with medium lasting. Aroma is strong malty, marzipan and candy sugar. Flavor is caramel malts, very sweet but no cloyed, plumbcake hints and marzipan. The final is sweet, creamy and dense on palate.
