Our most traditional core beer is inspired by a Manchester stalwart; a fondly-remembered original. Speciality malt gives the deep golden colour and robust base, balanced by crisp bitterness and a floral, lemony aroma.

Gravity cask at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate, Leicester. Light brown, almost clear with a loose beige head. Light aroma of wood, orange peel, a touch of turps. Bittersweet taste with earthy bitter hop to the fore, although there's also some overripe citrus and notes of Angostura bitters. Finish is very bitter bordering on medicinal. A clean, decent bitter made very well.

An almost perfectly clear light copperish amber. Slightly off-white head, decent retention and hints of lacing. Classicly delicate but interesting aroma: light crackery and slightly biscuity malt base, rich hop profile shows flowery and citric notes (in the likes of marmalade), with a light earthy (but clean) foundation on the back of things. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter, with perfect balance in both taste and aftertaste, just as a good bitter should be. Taste notes follow the aroma, none stands out and they nicely complement each other. Light to medium bodied with light to medium carbonation, possibily a bit more carbonated than style standard. Still a pretty classic sessionable mouthfeel overall. A fine, well made bitter.

Blik gedeelt door Benzai, geprobeerd met Inoven. Het is een goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een fruitige geur. De smaak is fruitig en wat zurig.

My first proper British Bitter. And quite a good one at that. Nice, classic floral hop presence. Thanks Chris P. !
