Pours black, near flat. Smells sweet, rich, decadent, chocolate, hazelnut. Thick, smooth, boozy. Taste is very sweet, with loads of hazelnut chocolate stuff. Some whisky, which might be the haute couture stuff, who knows. Tasty, but way too sweet.

These waxed cans, seriously. Medium body, oily, sweet, a bit boozy. Lots of chocolate, 50% milk chocolate. Barrel comes through nicely. Smooth. Very nice.

Collaboration with AF Brew in Russia and several other Russian craft breweries, a mighty and decadent pastry stout ironically poking a bit of fun at the fact that certain beers can get overhyped these days – a cultural phenomenon that has annoyed me as well sometimes. To go completely over the top, the can is adorned with wax – something you normally only see on bottles… Thanks to Craftmember for sharing this can, which was indeed anything but easy to open. Thin, bubbly, off-white ring, completely open and quickly gone, so no head to speak of really; black robe with misty mahogany edges. Intense bouquet of hazelnut paste, coconut flakes, nougat, rum-soaked raisins (‘boerenjongens’), wet leather, molasses, kahlua, stracciatella and mocha ice cream, hot chocolate sauce, almond but also hints of liquorice, cognac and lemon sherbet. Extremely sweet onset as expected, sticky, candied fruit and caramel, softly carbonated; very syrupy, heavy body. A sourish touch not unlike lemon sherbet, however, adds a thin streak of lightness that watches over its drinkability; nevertheless a very heavily weighing almondy, chocolatey and fudge-like middle makes up the core of this beer, adorned with impressions of coconut, nougat, hazelnut and vanilla. Obviously very boozy in the end, with ongoing sweetness, but somehow the stickiness of it gets wiped away by this rum-like, peppery booze as well as slight roasty accents. Mocha, vanilla and coconut still remain the last impressions, though, fully placing this creation in the pastry stout class. Intense, very intense, too sweet for me personally, but undeniably a very ambitious, overpowering, bold creation – and within its style, quite the achievement, considering it remains quite drinkable at near 15% ABV (much more than I guessed), with a complexity to it as well. Even after so many thick and syrupy pastry stouts, I must admit that I am a little impressed by this one. --- Beer merged from original tick of OverHypeBeast . on 28 Oct 2020 at 16:24 - Score: Appearance - 4 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8.
