During the 2019 cherry harvest, we processed 3 different varieties of cherries. This blend mainly contains Noordkriek and a small amount of Kelleris. This from local growers in the Antwerp region, a fruit region that has almost completely disappeared but has recently seen some new initiatives. The maturation took place in ex-Bourgogne and ex-Bordeaux casks. The Merlot we used is the barrel aged version of our Pet Bière 2019. After a period of 9 months in an ex-Bourgogne and ex-lambic barrel.
The name of this beer was chosen just a few days before the sale, after a difficult period for many of us. 2020 will go down in history as a Bloedrood (bloody red)/gitzwart year. And also a tribute to the healthcare sector that has given blood, sweat and tears.

Bottle (2020). Hazy ruby color with pinkish head. Aroma is red wine grape juice, not so much funk, on the juicy side, but tempting. Taste is red grapes, leather, grapeskin, some tannins and oak. Silky mouthfeel with fine-bubbled carbonation. Tasty, but not mind-blowing.

Medium red-pink head, gone in seconds over beautiful deep cardinal red beer, almost clear until very last of bottle. Intense vinous nose, red grapes, red wine, tannine. Given without tasting, 99% of samplers would claim wine. Quite sour, here's the difference. Lambic-like acids, but the barnyard/horseblanket flavours are all but erased. In the background musk-like wineflavours, and lemon at the tonguesides. Sharp and serious acidthinning, some -burn. Almost no carbonation, not disturbing, the winecharacter enforced. Quite slick, somehow. Nose is out of this world. Sure those barrels were empty? Kudo's for the achievement, but I'm really getting tired of this repressive attitude to sales. Leave it to your customers to judge whom they sell to, they know better than you!
