Draft. Rich amber beer with a dark cream head. Dark fruit and caramel aroma. Smoke and caramel flavor with dark fruit. Medium bodied. Smoke and caramel lingers with light toffee and dark fruit.

Bouteille 12oz, courtoisie de Hogtownharry ou Blankboy. De couleur ambrée-brune et claire. Nez de caramel sucré, léger de cassonade, et de fruits (prunes et traces de raisins vineux), léger d’alcool doux et de fumée de bois avec des notes de vanille, de houblon herbeux et de sirop d’érable. Plutôt ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-bas et une texture légèrement liquoreuse et sirupeuse. Moyen goût fruité sucré (prunes, léger de raisins vineux et traces de cerises) avec des notes de vanille ainsi qu’un léger goût de fumée de bois (présent discrètement en arrière-goût tout au long de la gorgée) lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi d’un goût de caramel sucré avec des notes de sucre brun ainsi que des traces sirop d’érable et de chocolat noir. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve un léger goût d’alcool aux notes liquoreuses jusqu’en finale où s’y développe une légère amertume de houblon herbeux aux petites notes terreuses. Post-goût long, moyen-léger amer d’alcool aux notes de rôti avec un léger goût fruité (raisins, pelures de prunes) ainsi qu’avec quelques notes fumées.

Served from a 12 oz bottle shared at a private tasting. Pours a dark amber with a non-existing head. Malty caramel aroma. Astringent mouth feel. Toffee and candy sugar Noticeable alcohol in the finish

Bottle courtesy of Iphonephan. A wonderful Barley Wine. Interesting yeasty malty aroma. I got some caramel in the nice warm smooth moderately sweet flavour but not the oak and vanilla as suggested on the label. At 11%, the alcohol is well handled. Worth tasting and very enjoyable.

Aroma is sweet with honey, raisins and hints of vanilla. Flavour is rather sweet with sugar, raisins, honey, ripe fruits and woody notes. Alcohol can be observed but it does not disturb here Too much sweet honey here, but good anyway.

On tap at the Gaithersburg location. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a good amount of caramel with sweet grains and a backing syrup notes. Flavor starts with a good amount of maple and sweet grain with hints of oak and caramel.

Couldn’t find a date on the bottle, but my notes say I received this in 2010, sampled 5/7/2012. Pours a deep copper color with a decent sized tan head that persists for a good long time. Smells of caramel and toffee with hints of smoke, dark fruit, sweet malts, a bit of earth and a touch of alcohol. This certainly has an English feel to the nose. The taste is where it all falls apart. There’s a tartness upfront that seems out of place. Some sweet burnt sugary malts come in next but they are quickly overpowered by a peat smoked phenol that I wasn’t expecting. A touch of alcohol and a sweet tart mix of fruits linger long after every sip. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet tart kind of mouthfeel going on. It smells a whole lot better than it tastes that’s for sure. I don’t remember disliking this when I’ve had it before, maybe it just doesn’t age well or its in its funky years. Well I just read the bottle and it makes a little more sense now. Smoked malt, juniper berries, vanilla, maple syrup, English and Belgian yeast. Its still a bit weird in flavor!

Bottle 12fl.oz. [ Vintage 2007 ]. Light unclear medium amber red colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, bread, oxidide, dried fruit, alcohol, smoke notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120324]
