500ml bottle: BBD Jan 15, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard during a random tasting evening with myself during Dec 14, my 5th beer of the session. Very little head (tanned in colour), just a wisp and collar around the dark brown body. No sediment left the bottle, or at least I did not see any leave. Aroma and taste was leaning toward vinegar like, old wine/port that had been corked if being kind. Some malty chocolate notes coming through the original impressions but this will aid my digestion without a doubt (live rate) in the morning. Lesser men would drain pour this, but I am made of sterner stuff and will carry on. Scottish oat Cakes, soft French Cheese, Onion Rings and home made pickle will see me through. I was going to take this to a bottle share: wish I had now! Coffee esters arrived as it warms a little, but the overriding flavour/aroma/taste is still off-wine/port like in nature. I like this brewery and their beers normally: got to say this bottle did them no favours. Can’t remember if I bought this at the brewery or Beers of Europe? Happy to re-visit if I get a free bottle on my next visit to the brewery. Over to you!

Cask @ Navigation Tavern Beer Festival, Mirfield. Almost black with a thick creamy off-white head. Has a full coffee roasted malt aroma and similarly a lingering taste in this respect.

Bottle at the (seemingly thus far - NOT SO) Night of Garbage, thanks to Leighton our host with the most (stairs!), 20/12/13 up a shit load of stairs - just resucitaing Kenneth following his arrival ! Dark mahogony brown with a good sized light tan head that retains well. Nose is light roast, dark fruits, tobacco, dark toffee, light smoke. Taste comprises light roast, coffee and walnut cake, earthy cocoa, dark fruit tang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying closure. Ok porter.

Bottle at the Night of Garbage, thanks to Leighton. It pours darkest brown (near black) with a medium beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, light smoke and ash. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasty, toast, mild acidity, cocoa, coffee and decent bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A solid porter by all accounts.

The (not so) shit beer tasting at Leightons stratospheric flat. Almost opaque brown beer, good pale cream - tan coloured head. Palate is crisp anx dry. Light and crisp mellow dark malt, pleasant light roast. Dark malt tang. Light dry dark malt cream. Comes together well. Light dry finish.

Bottle shared at the Night of Garbage. Got from the Net. Pours rich brown with a foamy tan head. The nose has dry chocolate, faint tangy dark fruits, coffee. Light sweet flavor with moderate roast, dirt, mellow coffee, raisins, faint char. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish, some tar, cocoa, lightly acidic coffee, dried berries. Nice.

Cask @ Fat Cat, Sheffield
Black, off white bubbly head, some lacing
Aroma of plain chocolate, mellow roasted malts
Taste of roasted malts, plain chocolate, good chocolate malts, some dark fruits underneath
Palate - soft carb, thinnish body. Finish as main flavour, nice soft plain chocolate linger
Overall - Tasty, but a bit thin for me
