Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence.

On tap at The Ginger Man, NYC. Pale gold, white head. Tropical fruit, grapefruit, caramel malt, pine. Very good.

Pours clear amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of malted barley, sweet. Taste has a malt backbone with a very heavy hop influence. Palate contains light elements of tropical fruit. ABV makes itself known. Nothing

Can at home. Has a slightly hazy orange colour with a light beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange peel, peaches, ammonia, pine apple, pine and grass. The flavour has more grass and pine with fruity undertones of grapefruit and pine apple. There's also some weeds. Has a soft and a little silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a heavy bitterness. A really hoppy IIPA balanced with sweet and fruity tones. Still a little too aggressive for my liking.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish orange gold with a finger of off-white foam that lingers, then dissipates. Big boozy, alcohol forward nose with orange marmalade and resinous pine aromas. A million IBUs on the palate with toasted caramel, pine, orange pith and zest, honey and booze. More of the same on the finish. Kind of sticky and syrupy as well. Nothing really comes together well in this one. --- Beer merged from original tick of The Maharaja on 17 Jul 2018 at 20:37 - Score: 5. Original review text: Big boozy orange marmalade nose with pine resin. A million ibus on the palate. Super bitter and sugary, sticky sweet.

Boks fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Varm gylden. Høyt luftig skum med litt farge. Daler veldig sakte. Aroma av plommer & fersken. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken fyldig. Tørket frukt. Alkoholen skinner gjennom etter hvert. Tungdrikkelig.

12FL OZ can, 10 % abv, bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Firm off-white head to a cloudy amber coloured body. Clingy lacing. Dried fruity nose with malty sweetness. Blended taste of apricot, pine, and almond, slightly jam-like impression. Bitter dried fruity end with warmth from the alcohol. Heavy stuff, decent slow sipper. (Tromsø 24.02.2018).

Can from Jiyugaoka AEON Liquor. Pours nice amber, or light copper, whichever way you prefer to look at it. Not much foam or much carbonation. Nose is sweet, sweet, sticky with orange marmalade, light booze and some sugar-coated melon. Light hop bitterness as well, bit definitely malt-forward at this point. Taste has some more bitterness, but that sweet and sticky herbal orange marmalade is still very strong. Doesn't really feel like IPA, more like hoppy barleywine - which it probably actually is. Strong and boozy double IPA, balance is still good - but would have loved to try this beer when it was 6 months younger, that would have been something different I believe.
