This deep dark delight harkens back to the days when such brews were shipped to the Imperial Court of Russia. With a firm roasty maltiness balanced against a generous helping of hops, Northwind has what it takes to stand up to the worst its namesake can dish out! Enjoy it by a roaring fire. Formerly called Iditarod Imperial Stout.

Draught from ginger manhattan. Dark as hell. White to tan head. Lots of chocolate and malty aroma, some hops to finish. Pretty good.

12 ounce bottle from Costco Appleton, 12/15/19, lot 2949. Black, large brown head, good retention. Aroma of roast, raisin, molasses. Taste is caramel, molasses, raisin. Medium bodied, low carb, booze well hidden. Too sweet.

On tap at Two Brothers Taphouse, Scottsdale. Black with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of dark malt, chocolate and some coffee. Also notes of dark fruit. A bit on the sweet side with a rather long finish.

Bottle. Nose of cocoa, milk, wood, brown sugar, some coffee, minerals, and something like caramel corn. Sweet flavor, cola, minerals, chocolate, cream soda. Decent.

Draught. Opaque dark brown with small foamy beige head, light mocha aroma, medium carbonation, full body, mocha taste, medium finish with sour coffee aftertaste. Good stout, but the coffee beans sour aftertaste degrades the brew.

A touch under-stated for an imperial stout in 2015, this would have been right at home in 1995. Caramel nose hints at roast, flavor sweet and roasty wth a full caramel presence, sweet full bodied finish, lingering thoughts of coffee. A very simple and straightforward strong stout. You want huge and complex, look elsewhere.
