On tap at 43rd Street location in NYC. Pours opaque dark brown with a foamy tan head. Sweet roasted malt hints at cocoa and coffee. Taste follows nose with additional notes of brown sugar and Hershey's Syrup. Smooth and creamy, with quaffable tendencies. Delightful.

Part of a seasonal voyage platter at the Heartland Brewery and Chophouse, 43rd St, NYC. Pours almost black with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is syrupy, chocolate, toffee and molasses. Moderate sweetness, quite heavy bitterness. Full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. Syrupy finish.

On tap at Heartland, Empire State, NYC. A dark one, almost black, with a creamy, light tan head on top. The aroma is roasted and coffee-ish, with some licorice. Rather boring and uninteresting, but not foul. There’s some sourish notes in the flavor, some berries too, but it’s mostly roasted malts. Full to medium body, smooth and with some acidity. Not much of the sweetness promised. Overall, a decent beer, but too acidic for me. 150624

Keg at Heartland Union Square, 24/11/13. Light black with reddish hues when held to the light, big old light tan head, excellent full glass lacing ensues. Nose is roast malt, earthy cocoa, dark toffee, metallic nip. Taste comprises light roast, earthy cocoa, liqourice, dark toffee, dark fruit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying closure with light roast. Solid stout.
