Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

Orange-gold, ever so slight haze (yeast clings perfectly to the bottom); good carbonation to rather dense, white head, dwindling. Freshly smelling grassy/herbal/leafy nose; some candi sugar (but smelling rather like brown than white candi sugar). Faint farmyard or garden aromas, bit of grain, yeasty aroma’s too. Again outspoken garden herbs flavours, commencing a reasonably complex beer. Also a dash of rosewater. Main taste is sweet, but there’s faint hints of acidity, supported by the carbonation. There’s some raw peanut flavours retronasal, turning again yeasty. Light to medium bodied, slightly sticky finish. Without even approaching the superb complex beer Saison 1900 was 25 years ago, this is definitely one of Phillippe’s better beers. Probably not the best selling, but one to keep the brewer proud - even in this sad 25cl bottle.

Clear yellow color, medium white head. Aroma of hops, some spice, more like a stronger pilsener, some orange. Taste is more balanced and complex than a pilsener, moderately bitter, bit more yeasty. Dry palate.

Blond colour, white head, pale colour. Sweet, malty and spicy aroma. Sweet candy flavour.

Bottled, sold under the label "Vallon" in Gimo, Sweden. I wasn't 100% sure that this was a relabelling of the Saison 1900 until I poured it and the solid, dense foam on top of the pale amber liquid formed a topographical map of Guadalcanal. The aroma is full of graasy hops, spices and oranges. It is dry, light bodied and lightly funky with notes of honey and a pleasant bitter finish.

An unclear amber beer with a very fine head. The aroma is a very powerful fruity and flowery aroma. The flavor is very light and smooth, pretty sweet with almost no bitterness to balance it. There is not enough body in flavor. -------- Tried it again which was a disappointment

I am really enjoying watching the yeast clumps (ugh) flying all over my glass as the carbonation is really zipping along. I've got more foam than beer, and it's a straight-sided glass. A very crazy head formation after a couple of minutes - like a topographical map of Guadalcanal or something. Spicy aroma - some citrus, a lot of yeast, sage, Styrians (I think - there could be some noble stuff in there as well). The palate is soft, malt accented, with some light orangey (mandarins) notes, dry finish. Good quencher, not terribly complex. I kind of like this.
