Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

Sampled from 75cl bottle thanks to Thompson. Hazy orange color with a lot of floating yeastresidu in it. Medium sized white head. Smell yeast, malts and slightly spicy. Taste malts, yeasty, lightly bitter. Quite nice actually.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Beersel. Rated on 17.07.2010
Aroma has some floral and yeasty notes. Flavour has yeasty notes, some citron, wheat and hints of spices. The vanilla aroma must really be rather light as I was not able to taste it here. Too light stuff.

Bottle from Ohtsuki. Nose of lemon, grass, some cabbage, spices, bready malts. Deep golden with a high, fine head. Dry falvor, some citrus and spices and bready malts. Grassy, some hay. Rather thick palate for a saison. Some vegatables. Rather simple, but decent.

An orange yellow beer with a big and white head. Aroma is fruitfull and overally quite sweet, lots of orange marmelade, spicyness. Taste is sweet and fruitfull, orange marmelade, also spicyness and herbs, flowers and some grass, herbal and long aftertaste. Medium bodied, lots of carbonation that lighten the overally sweet body. Quite sweet, unsaison beer, good.

Bottle at home in London during the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Pours cloudy yellow with a small, white foam head and a few floaties. Nose is very light, just some hints of straw and paper. Light sweet flavor, subtle hints of paper, cardboard, mild florals, some dough. Light bodied with high carbonation. Bland finish, a bit more papery cardboard, faint cereal, faint sweetness, some dough. This is pretty weak.

330 ml bottle courtesy of a friend @ 3 Små Rum. Pours clear golden with a white head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is subtle and tiny sweet with cereal, plums, lemon zest and wild strawberries. Taste is slightly sweet with yeasty esters, red berries, plums, very ripe oranges and hints of banana and oxidation. Mouthfeel is tiny watery, round and thin to medium bodied. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with cereal, orange zest and very ripe peaches.
