Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden coloured hue with floaties and a blond medium-sized foamy head. Yeasty and slightly grainy malty aroma with hints of citrus, vanilla and a tinge of spicy hops. Mildly sweet and bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a slightly fizzy carbonation. Shy grainy and subtle fruity taste with a rather rough yeasty and hop bitter finish. Rather unexciting Saison. 11.VI.11

330ml bottle from Belgium Beers in Antwerpen. Shared with Finn at our hotel room. Hazy blond body, filmy layer. Smell of dusty hops and sweet fruits. Honeyed sweet fruits in flavour offset by a bite of tart apples. Very foamy in the mouth. Possible to drink, without further excitements (Aalst, 30.04.2011).

11.2 fl oz bottle sent to me by bvc. Best before L18052010, 14:12 stamped on the label. Opens as a mild gusher, pours into the glass murky copper golden with a fair amount of visible floaties. Very unfiltered looking. The head is quite noisy, two inch pure white, more lasting than expected. Falls with foamy lace. Aroma is herbal clove, lightly honey sweet and earthy wheat. A bit sweet and medicinal. Taste is herbal medicinal with the clove honey as the dominant theme. The finish shows some straw and the wheatiness of the nose. I liked the taste better than the smell, though still a bit too much medicinal herbal honey for my tastes. Palate is medium bodied, unfiltered, though quite dry. Quite drinkable. Thanks for sending this my way Brandon.

21/01 0.75 l bottle courtesy of ogivlado, thanks! It poured dark golden body with big head. Very nice aroma, orange, other citrus, some apples and bread malt. Bitter flavor, fruity, almost like apple juice, pleasant enough. Surprisingly full for a saison, medium bodied overall. Long herbal and apple finish. In contrast to few saisons that are among the top of the style, which I really disliked as they prove totally empty, I liked this one despite low expectations.
