Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

Bottled 750ml. -Slight hazy amber coloured, medium sized white head, dusty fruity nose. Very lively carbonation. Moderate malty, slight spicy and hoppy with notes of apples (Golden Delicious). Bitter finish. Not bad.

0.75l bottle, shared with ogivlado and heavy. Poured a dark amberorange body, hazy and very nice, big thick lasting white head. Dusty nose, notes of peach juice. Slightly bitter taste, somewhat funky, malt, light sweet apples, very light lemon. bitter herbal hoppy aftertaste. Had better, had worse.

[9/23/10] Draught at De Wildeman in Amsterdam. Clear amber. Aroma is kind of fruity with a bit of sugar and light spiciness. Sweetish flavor with some spiciness, caramel, some fruits and a bitter spicy finish. Medium-bodied.

Originally rated Feb. 2007. Part of a 8-pack Christmas special from Brasserie Lefebvre. Best before date written on back label is L05102007. Pours a hazy caramel colour with a big creamy off-white head, that creates thick chunky lace. Retention is great and carbonation is steady with very tiny bubbles. Nice... just like the description says, quite refreshing. The nose has characteristics of a Flemish Sour, but instead of the sourness, has rust and spices. Smooth mouthfeel, more on the watery side with a mild creamy edge. Good spicy taste that stays into the aftertaste, with some fruity apples and citrus that shows up. Again, a very refreshing and satisfying saison.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Clear copper golden colour, big white head. Aroma is fruity, light toasted malts, some butter. Flavour is fruity, sweet, malty, buttery, mostly dry with a bitter finish. Light bodied. Not outstanding.

Ive had this beer in Belgium a number of times and always been unimpressed. Still, I just had to try it again at Maxs. 11.2oz bottle. Devolved unfresh stuff, not quite nailing the style, but drinkable still. Sweet and sugary, no subtlety. The kills any potential remnants of freshness. A let down, should have trusted my memory.

Bottle. Poured cloudy orange with frothy white head. Much lacing. Aroma is spicy, with a tinge of herb, a tinge of vanilla and a tinge of citrus. Vanilla and herb in the medium flavour, medium body. Spice and more herb in the finish.

Pours gold into a tulip. Bright white head recedes to skim surface. Sweet flower aromas. Astringent with pepper and yeast. Dry, lasting sweet malt finish.

11.2 ounce bottle - hazy golden pour - fizzy, short-lived head - smells like apples, honey and vanilla, with light hints of wildflowers, mustiness, and tartness - fairly sweet for a saison, with strong vanilla and honey - a bit of apple and pear - floral character is fairly strong - tanginess and moderate acidity in the finish - a little metallic quality on the end - more like a sweet belgian ale than a saison.
