Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

Bottle, Hotel du Vin, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Rich golden colour with a decent foamyish head. Aroma was fragrant hop, yeast, and a dash of clove. Flavour was gently spicy with smooth maltiness mixed with a fresh fruitiness that leads on to a bittersweet finish. Interesting and very drinkable

(Bottle, 0.75 l, at Kaisla, Helsinki, on 2008-10-17) Pale orange. Hazy. Medium sized, white and quite quickly disappearing head. Very light nose with sour and fruity aromas. Medium bodied and bit dry palate with medium carbonation. Hint of sourness, bitterness and some fruitiness in taste. Sour and bitter aftertaste. I didn’t find vanilla at all. Boring.

Bottle, 5.2%. Yeasty aroma, hint of spice and perfume. Almost clear amber colour. Big stable lacy white head. The flavour starts off very yeasty and not very good. Then it turns more spicy and gets tolerable. Finishes a bit citric. A strange beer.
