Saison is an old recipe originating from the Hainaut tradition. It was brewed by all breweries at the beginning of the last century. In honour of the founder of the brewery, who produced Saison for the “cayoteux” or local quarrymen, this beer was once again produced in 1982. It is a golden coloured beer with an impressive head. The hop aroma is dominant with hints of flowers, resin and spices. Its density makes it a beer for special occasions and great moments.

33 cL bottle. Pours gazy orangw with a slowly collapsing white head. Light honey spiced to subdued citric/acidic aroma. Flavour is light wheaty/cornish/spelt like and with a mild honey like spice note. Minor sourish note - not infected but towards a flemish sour, yet quite controlled. Light yeasty and citric finish. Very easy saison which carries a lot of malt and has a minor reminiscence of flemish sour beers.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 22 Sep 2007) Amberish, tawny colour with off-white head. Fruity, slightly acidic nose with notes of apricots and orange. Fruity taste with apricots and green apples. Sourish with balanced sweetness. Balanced, enjoayble. But there are better saisons around.

Re-rate. 330ml brought back from Antwerp by my folks. Pours a clear deep golden with lots of head and a no sediment (careful pour). Nice pepery smell and a good, if typical estery, gluey flavour with some juicey hop notes and a good alcohol kick. Nice long bitter aftertaste.

Bottled. Orange, with a huge white head. Sparkling and cloudy. The nose is cellar, tropical fruits and hints of spices. The flavor has an artificial-like candy-sweetness, along with the tropical fruits from the aroma, and a bit more pronounced banana. Medium, sparkling body and a lightly dry finish. Decent, but nothing special. Rating: 6-4-6-3-11-3. (060513)
Bottle, 75cl corked. A slightly hazy, orange beer with a small, beige head. Fruity, spiced nose with some caramel and a little cellar scent. Malty, slightly grainy flavor with a nice spiced touch. Medium body and a nice carbonation level. Pleasant and easy to drink. (081128)
