Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, the brewery uses dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. The beer was named Cutthroat Porter as a tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring.

Bottle with Barry. Pours an opaque, dark brown with a light, tan head, both foamy and creamy. Lots of smoke and cocoa in the aroma. Lightly sweet with strong roasted malts and faint coffee. Some hints of grape and raisin. Light to medium in body with smooth carbonation. Light, dry roast finish with lingering mocha and sweet coffee. Really good.

Bottle from the Cave. Dark brown colour, brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some coffee. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee. Slightly bitter and sweet. A bit watery.

Keg at The White Horse American beer festival, Parsons Green, London. Deep dark brown almost black colored pour with virtually no head. Roasty, coffee aroma. Tastes of coffee, malty, hoppy, roasty, slight bitterness. Easy drinking but rather plain porter.

Bottle from Utobeer, London. Poured a very dark red tinged brown with a dissipating tan head. Nose was dark bitter chocolate, roasted malt, rye bread. Similar roasty qualities in the flavour with a nod towards some dark fruit. Rather lacking in body. Some bitterness towards the finish. Drinkable if unspectacular fayre.

Bottle from Kris Wines. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of coffee, wood, quite smokey, roasted malts. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel. Finishes smokey and sweet. Good stuff.

Bottle from Bellingers, Jet Garage, Grove near Wantage, Oxon 16-09-09 consumed 17-09-09 Pours black with beige head, it looks quite lovely. Wood and roasty notes on the nose with a touch of tangy malt. Soft carbonation in the mouth, roasty but not harsh, a little coffee dregs sit under the tongue there is some sweetness and touch of caramel with a bit of dark fruit a bit of light smokiness, very nice stuff. A6 A5 F8 P4 Ov14 3.7

Bottle - Very dark brown with red tinges and a tan head. Chocolate, roasted malt and coffee in the aroma. Chocolatey taste with hints of coffee and an element of dried fruit in the finish.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a light’ish head. The aroma is mildly roasted, and the flavour is relatively roasted with a bitter and malty finish. Overall a reasonable porter.
