Cask at Old Harkers Arms, Chester. Pours a dark copper with a large off-white head. The aroma is an attractive combination of malts and autumn fruits. Pretty the same again in the mouth, with mushy apples, toffee and hintds of spice. Overall it’s sweet but with an underlying earthy bitterness, leading to a slightly dry finish. This is a pretty decent old school bitter – wish there were more like it.

19/6/2022. Cask at the 30th East Anglian Beer & Cider Festival, Bury St Edmunds. Thanks to SHIG. Pours clear amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, hoppy, caramel, fruit, touch of butter and a hint of honey. Fairly sweet, moderately bitter. Moderate body, a little watery, soft carbonation. Nice bittersweet finish, just lacked a bit of body.

Cask at the VAT and Fiddle, Nottingham. Poured a clear reddish amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy, off-white head. The aroma is grainy malt and yeast. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a smooth, fresh, malt, floral, woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ The Abbey. Pours clear amber, off white topping. Aroma suggests caramel malt intentions, smooth, light, clean on the palate, caramel malt arrives on time, some distant grain, quite well rounded but light. Wouldn't peg it in the red ale slot myself, perhaps that's more of a nod to it's ever-so-slightly reddish appearance but its a fine, simplistic, lightly sweet cask bitter.
