Helder lichtgeel bier met schuim. Smaak is fris fruitig en licht zoet met iets van banaan en citrus. Is helaas iets te licht van smaak.

Pours just slightly hazy golden, topped with medium white head. Gentle nose, spicy and yeasty notes. Wheaty feel with slight citric sourness. Medium spicy. Lighter body. Medium aftertaste.

Bottle from a Mitra in the nothern Netherlands, Leckere’s interpretation of the classic German Weissbier style, from a 25 cl bottle. Medium thick, off-white, moussy head, lightly lacing, over a hazy straw blonde beer with greenish hue. Aroma of apple peel, old wrinkly lemon peel, bath foam, chalk, old cloves, banana mush, dough, camomile tea, chicory leaves, freshly grated ginger, stewed turnips, bitter honey, unripe starfruit, gypsum. Fruity onset, lots of pear and apple peel, hint of souring green gooseberry, yellow plum and pineapple somewhere, in all sweetish with a softly souring edge as befits a classically composed European wheat ale, fizzy carbo with sharpish minerally aspects, soapy and soft, bit fluffy mouthfeel. Soapy wheatiness fills the middle alongside some cereally breadiness, becoming more soapy towards the end, with pointed spicy edges, reminiscent of coriander even though spices aren’t explicitly mentioned on the label; ends more dryish, with a grassy and lightly herbal hop bitterish touch, some spicy phenols, a chalky flavour lingering and, most of all, lingering wheat soapiness. Apparently made without spices - but I sincerely think coriander seed has been smuggled in, and with malted wheat instead of raw wheat, so more tilted towards German Weissbier than Belgian wit; the end result, though, reminds me a lot more of the slick soapiness and added spiciness of a witbier than of the soft estery and phenolic, bready character of a Weissbier. As with many Dutch wheat beers - still very popular there - I guess this could be a compromise between those two classic, once near-extinct but then vividly revived European wheat styles. In general: works fine, a bit too banana-like, too soapy and thinnish for me personally, but technically well-executed. Typical De Leckere style, I’d argue, but equally (very) reminiscent of certain ’classic’ Dutch wheat beers including La Trappe Witte Trappist, with which it shares the same thin, ’greenish’ soapy body and spicy-sweet character.

From a 33 cl bottle in Delft. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Malty nose. Flavors of caramel with just a hint of Belgian yeast. Sweeter than most wits.

Draught at Arendsnest. Light gold with a large head. Aroma is citrus. Flavour is light wheat and citrus, easy drinking

On tap at Arendsnest Amsterdam. Hazy pale gold thin lasting white head. Simple witte beer. Some hop some ester but really very light. Lemon. Ok. But simple.

Bottle from Albert Heijn, Warmond. Poured a hazy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is yeast, floral hop. The flavour is light acid citrus with a light watery, grainy, yeast, light fruit palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation.
