Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hop bitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Soft amber beer, tastes indeed a bit German. Malty and only mildly sweet. Bit too subtle.

Deep, earthy brown with a thin tan cap. Aroma is malt, cola. Taste is raisiny, woody, yeasty. Toasted, sweet, burnt sugar/caramel. Turns a little sour towards the finish.

Brown flip-top bottle, best before June 2011, drank and reviewed 7 Jan 2011. Poured into a Duvel glass. The body was a murky red/brown colour, more red than brown. The tan/cream coloured head was impressive for 20 seconds, it then began to fade away to leave a collar and some wisps within a minute, what a pity, my only fault. Molasses and toffee apples were the smells I got, along with a mini-sourness, like cooking apples boiled without sugar. The toffee and malty molasses dominate the taste, semi-sweet with a morsel citrus/hop bitterness in the background. The bite was good, well carbonated without being at all gaseous or fizzy. The best beer of this type I’ve had so far. That includes Andechser Dunkel. Impressed from start to finish (apart from the head fade).

Bottle thanks to Steve. Pours dirty brown. Tan head. Nose/taste of powdery malt, wort, rubber tires and fruit. Something’s off. Medium body.

Maybe a bad bottle, and the swing tops don’t hold out oxygen very well like corks or bottle caps do, so that might be why this was so disappointing. Brown color, not too appealing or unappetizing, just brown, very little carbonation which was probably a result of the oxygen. The taste was sickly sweet, like molasses, like it coated my tongue, I needed a glass of water to wash it down. Only tried it because it’s one of michael jacksons 500 classic beers.

Dark brown reddish color, pretty nice. Smell ok, but nothing special. Don’t really taste or smell much hops. Overall pretty average.
