Bottle. A brown sugar aroma with only a hint of malt and hops. Dark reddish brown with small head. Sweet dark malt and brown sugar/molasses flavor with mild hops and chocolate finish. Body fairly light for a porter. Very good but may be too light for some.

Deep clear garnet body, thick, puffy, dissipating light tan head. Light mocha aroma with hints of toffee and caramel. Rather thin body, metallic, with light tangy toffee and raisin notes in addition to burnt caramels. Odd, bitter, metallic finish. Maybe a touch of raisin, too. Sweet notes round out the palate, but thereβs too much of a watery, thin, perhaps stale quality here. Not on par with the better baltic porters.

Bottled. Black opaque, huge brown foamy head. Fruity aroma and a bit soapy too. Sweet roasted malt with hints of caramel in the flavour. Sweetish finish, not much aftertaste. 8 4 8 3 15 (March 2005).
Bottled (BBE 30.12.2007, enjoyed Feb 2012). Very deep amber colour, close to black, with a big creamy beige head. Aroma is slightly oxidized sweet malts, mild raisins and some toffeeish notes. Flavour is rather much the same, rather sweet, and quite madeira like. 8 4 8 3 16.

Pour is dark black with no head. Aroma is a small chocolate with some roast in there. Flavor is dark brown sugar and alcohol. Very warming but not pleasant.

A red-brown beer with a chocolate brown disappearing head. The aroma is slightly roasty with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and candy sugar, leading up to a dry end. In my book this isnβt a porter, but closer to a Vienna, though it is still an OK beer.

Batch 1B04. Good enough pour, chestnut brown, black streaks, some light violet-magenta hues. Big creamy mocha head. Aroma is quite good, nuttiness, caramel, espresso, brown sugar. Flavor however, is a whole new ballgame. Extremely sweet through most of the beer. It starts out with a light nuttiness, but thatβs about the limit of the complexity. Just gets caramelly with a roast and coffee flavor that lingers and dosent do much. VERY sweet, ztrvz wasnt kidding. Medium body, slightly syrupy, cloying. Disappointing, to say the least, very lifeless, filtered I believe, boring, old tasting. Darn.

Very dark ruby brown. Brown creamy head, nice lace. So classic porter outlook. Aroma is not very strong: alcoholic and roasted malt. Quite medium-bodied: sweet caramel and malty palate. Good example of baltic porters.

Dark brown with some red. The head is large and tan but thin. Aroma of alcohol. Taste of raisins, scotch, and very sweet malt. Slight smoked flavor. Unexpected taste of wheat in the sweet finish.

(500 ml bottle). Dark ruby colour. Good light tan head. Interesting vinous aroma of raisins, blackberries, ensilage, seaweed and some coffee. Full, rich and smooth flavour - but unfortunately too sweet. Like a good cup of coffee with too much sugar. Syrup battles with a nice roastiness in the aftertaste. Still, an interesting Latvian aquaintance - well worth sampling.
