I’ve been drinking this beer for over 20 years - ever since it was "brown dishwater". In recent years the bottles have been generally excellent. However, on tap it is something else - absolutely gorgeous ! Pours black with a bigger head than the bottle. Aroma of coffee and chocolate with tastes of liquorice and blackcurrant. Soft carbonation and a long finish to savour. Worth the wait !

Dark brown color with tan ring. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee. Metallic. Taste is similar, with vanilla, liquorice. Not sweet, a bit bitter and metallic. Soft mouthfeel. Okay, but I?ve had much better Baltic Porters.

22nd June 2015: 500ml bottle, home alone. Poured into a UK pint sleeve: looks good, very dark, OK, black, the head a full tanned foam blanket, sadly fell away too swiftly for my liking. How do you like your malts? Full on? Welcome to the party, have a nose full of dark chocolate and coffee esters while your taste buds get the same but with a vanilla and liquorice undertone. Neither sweet nor bitter, this is a wonderful example of a mass produced Baltic Porter: maybe on the thin side and not robust in the mouth, but I am being pedantic because I really enjoyed this beer.

Black color with a fine beige head. Toffee, coffee and roasted malt in the nose. Medium + body and a pleasant carbonation. Tad sweet caramel/toffee, some chocolate, mild coffee and some roasted malt in the flavor. Rich warm mouthfeel. Ahh I like this.

Foam: lively dark brown head but quite quick diminish into a ring of lacing, lasts for 1-2 minutes Colour: thick black or very dark brown/red coloured standard Latvian porter Aroma: Light sweet dark malt aroma, wood and just a hint of smoke, roast coffee, chocolate, dark syrup / caramel, prunes, toffee and hints of chocolate Taste: Fuller, sweet, loads of caramel, slightly dry with little bit of a coffee and chocolate, body is medium, low carbonation, cocoa and dark bread quite smooth, roasted malt, sweet brown candies, raisin, plum, dark bread, light chocolate/roast, and yeast earthiness. With a good malt/yeast flavour balance and slightly chalky mouthfeel, that is nice light salty, then sugar. Enjoyable. Hides ABV well. Easy to drink.

Pours dark brown, a bit of beige foam. Aroma is quite metallic, bit of caramel sweetness, not much there. Taste is fuller, sweet, loads of caramel - but this metallic thing still there, also not very smooth but rather rough. Aftertaste has more long bitterness, slightly dry. Not a bad beer from a large brewer but definitely have had many better baltic porters. Does qualify though as drinkable and as an example for the style,

Dar beer with a good, lively head. Smell was smoky and chocolatey, taste followed suit but had some fruity malt in there as well. Rich, smooth porter. Very nice indeed.

At a tasting, many thanks Stas, been looking for this for a long time, very dark brown color, aroma of wood and chocolate with some nuttiness and just a hint of smoke, flavor of cocoa and dark bread, lingering earthy bitterness, quite smooth. Highly enjoyable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, licorice, some roast. Sweet flavor with caramel, some roast, a chocolate note and a bit of licorice. Medium-bodied. A decent Baltic Porter, quite classic for the style.
