Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was obviously a rugged dark brown color with a thin layer of a white to off white foamy head that dissipates at a nice pace. No lace.
The aroma starts off with a sharp rugged earthy hop bitterness. And then the dark malts of toffee and caramel flood the nose. Ends up blending nicely.
The flavor leans earthy hop sweet with that rugged bitterness biting it and sending it right into the aftertaste. Quick sharp finish.
On the palate, rugged in it’s bitterness, this one baptizes my tongue with an unexpecting sort of bite sending the sessionability fairly low. The bitterness seems a bit more than expected. Mild carbonation.
Overall, interesting brown ale, definitely leans to the American side of the wheelhouse. But the hops seem to not want to play as much as the brewer may desire.

Dégustée en fût sur place. De couleur ambrée très foncée et semi-voilée. Nez de grains de malt sucrés aux faibles notes rôties, léger de houblon herbeux avec des notes de noix et quelques traces fruitées (agrumes, traces de confitures de fraises). Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-doux ainsi qu’une texture aux notes aqueuses et huileuses. Notes fruitées (agrumes, traces de confitures de fraises) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût de grains de malt sucrés avec un léger goût de pain puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère amertume de houblon herbeux aux notes asséchantes. Post-goût moyen aux notes sèches, légèrement amer de houblon herbeux avec des notes de noix et quelques traces fruitées (zeste d’agrumes). (17 avril 2013)
