gefunden in einem SPAR-Supermarkt im Hauptbahnhof in Salzburg Ein bayrisches Helles, wie man es sich wünscht: unglaublich süffig und nicht zu bitter. Man könnte davon mehrere Liter trinken und es würde immer noch Freude bereiten. Es mag nicht besonders aromentechnisch ausgeprägt sein, aber durch die enorme Süffigkeit gefällt es mir wirklich gut.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours totally clear yellow-gold, effervescent, with a small, foamy white head. Simple, lightly sweet, some white bread, mild biscuity notes, soft bitter hay. Light bodied with average carbonation, fairly crisp on the finish, more hay, bready biscuits. Served cold, it’s damn refreshing.

Õlle on selline jook, et iga uus kord kui klaasi või pudeli suule tõstad, siis leiad midagi uut, sõltuvalt tuhandest-miljonist pisiasjast, mis hetke olukorda mõjutavad. Seega piirdun iga õlle juures selle tekstiga.

Helles Goldgelb liegt im Glas, kleine Kohlesäurebläschen steigen hoch. Dazu weißer feinporiger Schaum mit mäßiger Haltbarkeit. Soweit ganz vernünftig. In der Nase frisch, leicht säuerlich fruchtig und dezent getreidig. Frischer, etwas säuerlich herber Antrunk. Am Gaumen das nahezu idente Bild - zarte Herbe, gut spürbare Säure und die getreidig-malzige, eventuell sogar leicht brotige Note kommt nun etwas besser durch. Es ist zwar alles da, was ein gutes Bier braucht, aber wirkt weder richtig vollmundig, noch schlank oder gar dünn. Süffig ist es auf jeden Fall! Im Abgang wirken am längsten der nun sehr angenehme Malzcharakter und natürlich die Hopfenherbe nach. Ein für mein Empfinden blitzsauberes Bier - eine absolut runde Sache. Für bayerische Verhältnisse vielleicht sogar zu wenig süß und einen Hauch zu herb, aber das ist nur eine seeehr subjektive Ansicht meinerseits.

Can. Golden beer with a whitish head. Bready malt aroma. Mineral and hay flavor with bready malt. Medium bodied. Bready malt and mineral notes linger with hay.

Crisp, completely clear golden coloured body with a light, pure white head on top that fades very quickly and leaves just about nothing on top, albeit a small layer of pure white. Aroma of metal, light biscuity malts, some soft and subdued yeast notes along with a dash of citrus in the form of lemons, and that's about it - fairly mild, as expected. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavours up front dominate with a distinct biscuity and slightly grainy malt profile that is nice and provides context to the lager with some lighter floral and even hoppy (think very mild Saaz) notes show through near the end with a dash of sweetness from caster sugar and a touch of bitterness from cleanser and citrusey notes with the hops barely squeaking through. Aftertaste shows some crisp grain, light yeast and a very subdued dose of sugars, but not much of anything else, but fairly easy drinking. Overall, not a horrible start, but not too inspired, although that is the state of German beers, and nice to sample as Day #1 of my 'real' advent calendar of the year, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia and sampled on 01-December-2020, the first day of the month, at my house here in Washington.

First beer of the advent calendar from Costco. Some hint of mercury like a proper helles should have. Not bad for the style--reminds me of many of the ones I tried walking around the streets of Berlin a couple years ago. Golden pour with decent initial foam. Some straw, grass. Pleasant, and easy drinking. The first day of Christmas is Hell, I suppose. Can.

Day 1 of the Advent Calendar box from CostCo in Woodland, CA. Pours clear gold with a large foamy white head. Lots of little bubbles. Aroma is moderately bready with light grass/spice hop. Med body or so. Flavor is bready with a decent amount of Saaz type hop. Clean and refreshing.
