“Duchesse Cherry“ is as its name suggests a cherry beer. Brewed only with real Belgian cherries (no flavor enhancers or cherry extracts). The fruit comes from the region of Sint-Truiden in Limburg (Belgium).
Unlike the more famous Kriek beers, the basic beer of the "Duchess Cherry" is not a Lambic. but a Flanders red ale of mixed fermentation. This beer has a top fermented base and is then matured in oak casks where it undergoes a second wild fermentation. The tannins in the foeders (very large barrel used for the storage of great Bordeaux wines) give the Duchess Cherry its sweet, fruity, refreshing and bittersweet taste.
Once the base beer is ready, the master brewer adds 20 Kg of "Kriek Gorsem" (Belgian sour cherries) per 100 liters to the beer. For 6 months, the beer macerates with the cherries. The cherries give a fresh and fruity taste to the beer which has a sweet and sour base. After 24 months of process, the beer is ready to be filtered and racked .

clear ruby colour, moderate sized dense beige-ish head; aroma of sour cherry juice,some balsamic and citric acidy, some acetone and Belgian yeasty-barnyard notes; taste of sour cherry, tart, some citric acidy, minimal acetone and woody notes; really good one

Cette Duchesse Cherry se tient tant par ses arômes que par son équilibre. Et sans être exceptionnelle, pour le style, cela se tient et se boit. Le visuel est sur une robe rosée limpide, une fine effervescence et une mousse brun rosé d'un cm. Le nez est relativement acide sur la cerise, le vinaigre, le candy et un léger côté boisé (bière murie en fut de chêne). En bouche, c'est relativement acide, mais cela reste acceptable et donne une bonne vivacité à l'ensemble. La cerise est plutôt bien mise en valeur avec un sucre contrebalançant quelque peu l'acidité. La corpulence est moyenne tout comme la longueur. Passable.

--Sample, thanks oh6gdx! -- Clear burgundy colour, small head. Oaky, balsamic chery aroma. Tart with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Concentrated vinegary balsamic cherry, vinous oak. Complex and balanced. Excellent!

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een helder rood bier met een dun schuim. Het aroma is kersenachtig. De smaak is vol, fruitig, kersen. Erg wrang mondgevoel. Maar een lekkere kersen afdronk.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear dark red with no real head. Quite high carbonation. Aromas of sour cherry, wood, red wine. Taste is more of the same. Clean sour finish.

Bottle from HoTM or somewhere similar. It pours clear deep ruby with a decent frothy off - white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, juicy, tangy, tart, ripe cherry, fizzy cherry cola bottles, red wine, cherryade and strawberries with a splash of balsamic vinegar. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, puckering, vinous, bright sherbet vibes, sour candy, fizzy cherry cola bottles, ripe cherry, nip of acidity, cranberry, cherryade, quite crunchy, juicy and just a touch of woody tannins with a smooth tangy red fruits finish. Medium body and fine, prickly. Exceeded expectations for sure. If you like fizzy cherry cola bottles like me you will enjoy this. Fun.

Bottle from Eltham Wines. Deep red coloured pour,swiftly dissipating head. Nose is red cherries, cranberries, strawberry jam. Taste is cherrydrops, strawberry sherbet, cranberries, oak, touch of toffee apple. Very dry. Sweet cherry mouthfeel with a lightly tart backbone. Pleasant.
