0,33 l bottle from Slijterij de Jong, Nes. Cloudy red brown in the glass, small one finger pale beige head. Smokey ham on the nose with malty and citrus fruity background. Taste starts malty, some increasing berry fruity elements. Little bit boozy. Smokey background, some bbq, some cough drops. Low carbonated. Nice and easy drinking smoked stuff.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy copper brown with airy light beige head. Clear aroma of smoke and malt, with touches of yeast and bread. Bitter, hoppy flavour with notes of smoke, malt and yeast and touches of spice. Estery and smoky aftertaste with malty touches. A decent one.

Bottle, 8%. Very caramelly aroma, not much smoke. Hazy dark brown colour. Small unstable tan head. The flavour is sweet and very caramelly. Spicy malt and malt syrup notes. More spicy than smoked with hints of cough syrup. Low carbonation. Good, though.

330ml bottle. Hazy, orangey-brown colour with small to average, frothy, collapsing, off-white to beige head. Smoky and slightly caramel malty aroma, notes of smoked ham, smoked eel, wood ashes, whiffs of juniper berries, laurel, black and white pepper, pine needles, whiffs of honey; a collocation that could be used as lamb roast crust. Taste is smoky and herbal-spicy, caramel malty, slightly woody, minimally tart and soapy, notes of pine needles, a touch of juniper berry, laurel, subtle sweetness, fruity hoppy overtones with a touch of mandarine and orange. Watery texture, slightly dry, minimally astringent palate, medium, minimally prickly palate. Nice smoky flavours, not overly bock-ish - I understand the bad ratings because it seems to be a weird brew - but I like it.

Bottle from Beerwulf. Pours a hazy chestnut brown colour with a thinnish soapy looking off-white head. Aromas of caramel and hints of nuts and milk chocolate. Taste is more caramel, nuts and also some added smoky ash and roasty notes. Light body and slightly oily mouthfeel. Odd tasting beer. Not bad but nothing special.

Kampvuur met wat veel steranijs en zoethout doet het toch steeds niet helemaal

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Clear brown with a thin off-white head. Smoky roasted caramel malts with some raisins. Sweet taste with a medium bitter finish. Quite thin body for a doppelbock but still quite tasty.

Bottle. Brown color. Hint of smoke, licorice, caramel and berries in the aroma and flavor. Malty sweetish. Dry finish with juniper, vanilla. Questionale balance, still a nice brew.
