Bottle from a supermarket in Dalfsen. Aroma is malt, caramel, dried fruits, yeast, and raisins with a touch of candy sugar, which I generally don’t like in my beer but found harmless here. Flavour is fairly sweet with a decent light to moderate bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Not a bad drinkable Dubbel, I’ve had way worse in this style.

Fles op vakantie geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een roodbruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een moutige, zoet fruitige geur. De smaak is vol, moutig, rozijnen en kruiden.

Bottle shared at Maakun’s with a shout out to santa Bierkoning! Gusher. Dark brown with massive fluffy white head. Sweet roasted malts, caramel, dark fruit, rotten walnuts, chewing gum, weird, plasticcy, baker’s yeast. Moderate sweet and bitter, slightly off, light sour. Medium body and quite some carbonation.

Bottle shared, thanks to Bierkoning! Light mahogany with big fluffy beige head. Very lively stuff 😃. Bready, glue, poop, forest floor, 💩, burnt rubber, sugar, apple, alcohol, light roast. Over medium sweet, medium bitter. Over medium bodied with way too much carbonation. Most homebrew is better than this.

Bottle shared by Craftmember, cheers mate! Moussy, off-white, very lightly lacing but thin and loose, quickly dissolving head, hazy coppery bronze robe with burgundy hue. Aroma of pure caramel, candied date, some wet dog here and there, burnt brown sugar, dark bitter honey, soggy brown bread, plum wine, dry earth, pear peel but overripe pear as well, sugared tea, frangipane, fig, something subtly glue-ish. Sweetish, caramelly onset, lots of residual brown sugar slickness but nowhere overly cloying, some candied date and dried banana, deep and dim sourishness indeed very reminiscent of spelt, paired with a more rounded, caramelly body carrying both sticky candi sugar sweetness and deeper spelt sourishness onwards to a gently spicy, phenolic, bit herbal finish, drying and not unpleasant but not at all interfering with an ongoing flow of almost sticky, brown sugar- and dark malt-like sweetishness. I think I can see the point of trying to corkscrew both ’brown’ sweetness and sourish spelt ’wryness’ into one beer and this one probably does that right, but however correct this may be, I am not the greatest fan of specialty grains in beer (especially spelt) and this one just did not conquer me like it could have. All things considered: very decent, interesting Dutch craft ale, certainly, but a bit cliché and, frankly, boring.
